Labour - Reclaim the Night

I thought I'd removed myself from mailing lists a while back but occasionally still get them from my old local (although I'm not in their constituency any more) Labour team.

I've been invited to a Reclaim the streets event "demanding that women and girls feel safe on the streets."

WIBU to reply pointing out that as John McDonnell agrees with E M O' Hagan's assertion that no one knows what a woman is this is all pretty pointless?

That as their local MP tweeted support for the STUDENTS at Sussex, and stated that the BBC article on the rape of lesbians was the BBC being anti-trans, then the people making me feel unsafe are their elected members?

That as their leader doesn't understand basic biology, nor think sex segregated spaces are to be protected, that he allows the treatment of Rosie Duffield to continue...that as David Lammy is allowed to say that women hoard their rights...

How on EARTH do Labour think they're the go to on this front?

We should demand we feel safe in the streets, but not in womens toilets or womens sports.. gotcha!

Personwithrage · 19/11/2021 14:01

Or at work, or when sending our children to school to be taught ideology as fact...

It's such a balanced path to tread.

Some time ago I wrote to Keir Starmer pointing out the apparent contradiction of the Labour Party claiming that public spaces should be safer for women whilst supporting policies that meant women were less safe in private spaces where they were already vulnerable. Answer came there none.

ArabellaScott · 19/11/2021 14:29

Yes, one can either support single sex spaces for women ... or not.

Noshowlomo · 19/11/2021 14:49

I was a staunch Labour supporter years back. I wouldn't have a clue who to vote for now..

Personwithrage · 19/11/2021 14:58

I was a life long Labour voter.

I'd be ashamed to be associated with them in any way now.

Indeed you could. Wouldn't it be nice if you could do so without repercussions.

Because this is the idiocy of people like Ellie Mae.... if you cannot tell, why is it exactly that women have any trouble at all!!!!

Toseland · 19/11/2021 17:48

Isn’t the language odd - they are demanding that women and girls feel safe on the streets.
Perhaps it’s now run and lead by trans identified males like our local one?

EgoSumFeminaNaturalis · 19/11/2021 18:37

Probably demanding that women are kept safe on the streets from women.

Personwithrage · 20/11/2021 12:08

Which women though?!

It's impossible to unpick what the aims, motivations or reasons are any more.

I think the Labour Party has become lost on this issue, to the great detriment of itself and those relying on it to be an effective opposition. It's one of the most extraordinary political failures I've witnessed in my lifetime. And I've seen a few.

If Labour is relying on Stonewall - which I believe it is - for definitions, then Stonewall's CEO Nancy Kelley has very recently said that she believes 'transwomen' are 'literally' women. In other words, she believes that 'woman' is a gender, not a sex. And that that gender can be possessed by any person who wants it, male or female.

Therefore 'Reclaim the Night' for woman to Labour means 'Reclaim the Night for Both Sexes'. And similary, it means that night must be reclaimed from both sexes.

It is very poor thinking, and I'd be very interested to the Equalities Impacts Assessments of these policies that are being adopted by Labour-run councils etc.

I remember them all gushing over Lily Madigan at one of these RTN events.

Absolutely @EgoSumFeminaNaturalisgosum- the repurposing of words that the rest of us understood to mean different lands us up here. Meaning nothing and making nonsense. Certainly not conveying any point in having an event...
