From the programme notes:

"Nancy Kelley is CEO of Stonewall, the largest LGBT rights charity in Europe. She speaks to Emma about her organisation’s work and gives her reaction to recent high-profile withdrawals from Stonewall’s Diversity Champions workplace inclusion scheme, including the BBC."

Hmmm...yes, we've heard - and dissected - the previous pronouncement from that quarter about the BBC pulling out of the Stonewall scheme. Let's see what waffle and spin come out in this interview.

I think Nancy is about to feel the full force of a TRA pile-on after this interview.

Moorlander · 18/11/2021 10:38

Wow this is brilliant!

Welliesandpyjamas · 18/11/2021 10:39

I find it cringe that Nancy responds with the naive, bimbo approach and a giggle to tricky questions. Come on, Nancy, you are successful in your own field and career. Be proud of your position (assuming you are) and be more firm/confident. Be a woman not a girlie. Jeez.

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 18/11/2021 10:39

Terrible speaker! Every sentence started with "So....."

littlebilliie · 18/11/2021 10:39

@CriticalCondition

The high pitched hm-mms are very telling.
I think they went with a head tilt
Awkwardy · 18/11/2021 10:39

Purity spiral incoming! TRAs will turn on her as having some terfy views.

Welliesandpyjamas · 18/11/2021 10:39

Emma is excellent. All woman.

nauticant · 18/11/2021 10:40

EB is signing off with evidence that NK had not been completely honest in the interview they'd just played. Neat.

BattyOrange · 18/11/2021 10:41

JKR "will not be commenting"
What a total Queen that woman is.

beigebrownblue · 18/11/2021 10:41

anti bullying week

fifty per cent of lgbt plus kids are bullied...

for parents it is so important to feel as if you can challenge your school to do better...

lots of resources out there and people woh really want to help

WinterTrees · 18/11/2021 10:42

NK filling us in on her personal background - 'a very stable, cosy house and a loving family'. Which explains why she has no conception of, or sympathy for, women's real fear of 'inclusive' policies that mean the domestic violence refuges they rely on can no longer keep men out.

disconnected101 · 18/11/2021 10:43

NK connecting the abusive online experience of 'women of colour' with the Stonewall/trans 'we' Angry

Timefortea4 · 18/11/2021 10:47

That. Was. Epic. NK doesn't think people can literally change biological sex but TW are literally women. Make it make sense. Will NK be cancelled now for her terfy views?

IvyTwines2 · 18/11/2021 10:47

That was good, though I wish she'd pressed her a bit more on the lesbian dating issue and asked if the CEO of Stonewall believes homosexuality is a culturally-shaped choice that you can think yourself out of, rather than something innate, as the former is what Kelley's quote in the BBC article seems to imply.

MinervaBoudicca · 18/11/2021 10:48

Great stuff. Wish she’d asked about the use of dodgy suicide statistics in relation to children with dysphoria

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 18/11/2021 10:49

NK: I'm just expressing my own views, which hold no power.

Also NK: What JK Rowling said is ok in a vacuum, but she must be aware of the power she holds to harm.

Nothing to see here. No hypocrisy.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 18/11/2021 10:50

EB gets three StarStarStar and a sticker. Good work. No notes.

IvyTwines2 · 18/11/2021 10:50

And of the use of the word 'not feeling safe', very important if you are a student at Sussex uni, but 'transphobic' to mention in the case of women seeking refuge from violence.

BaronessWrongCrowdRex · 18/11/2021 10:52

Hang on. If people can not change their sex, Nancy. How are transwomen literally women?

Helleofabore · 18/11/2021 10:53

I wanted to yell to Emma to mention SW’s treatment of Allison Bailey!! But I guess that case is yet to come so best to keep away.

But EB did sound that she enjoyed that.

RoyalCorgi · 18/11/2021 10:53

Hang on. If people can not change their sex, Nancy. How are transwomen literally women?
Quite! The question they can never answer.

Haven't heard it yet, but sounds like Emma did a great job. No wonder Stonewall parroted "no debate" for so long.

beigebrownblue · 18/11/2021 10:54

Emma was fab.

But what Nancy said was of little practical use to parents of LGBTQ kids. (I've got one)

Also it sounded very hypocritical.

One minute JK Rowling praised to high heaven for encouraging generations of kids to pick up a book again - with Harry Potter and nowadays some view her as the devil incarnate.

Which one is it?

I'll go with the 'single mother triumphs and writes books in cafes...to save on heating...and makes millions, then gives away millions to charity...

BettyFilous · 18/11/2021 10:54

@BaronessWrongCrowdRex

Hang on. If people can not change their sex, Nancy. How are transwomen literally women?
Yes, it was a hot mess of contradictions.
lanadelgrey · 18/11/2021 10:55

A trio of brilliant interviews - EB invites us to listen again - I’m going to as a check but the only one that was direct, clear and where the interviewee was prepared to explore the question was Hmm Ooh go on, have a guess

Melroses · 18/11/2021 10:55

I come from a stable home and loving family background, but I don't think that is any excuse to push utopian building post modern theory onto a world of people with material lives.
