Posting because I can't find another thread. It'll be interesting to see the outcome.

Christ what a mess.

Big rival teams.
Neither country exactly great when it comes to women/ gay people etc.

Iran homosexuality is illegal max punishment death. Or... Have full sex change - hormones surgery whole shebang.

Read a thing years ago Iranian lesbian didn't know what lesbian was. In society homosexuality not acceptable, with women just not... Never heard not known etc.

They said right you're a bloke have a sex change. Iran. What do you do?

Now this footballer who may well have done it to avoid prison etc or just told essentially. In middle of international media. Row because football rivalry. Tests? Likely invasive unpleasant etc. They used to do that to women in the Olympics.

I feel sorry for the player. Personally. They're not responsible for the extremely oppressive country they're from.

Fucks sake what a mess.

Iran has the second highest rate of trans surgery in the world, after Thailand. And Thailand is a "medical holiday" destination whilst Iran isn't.

Exactly what you said @CheeseMmmm

CheeseMmmm · 16/11/2021 22:43

Well no i mean Iran not top of list for most people to visit.

I'm not sure what you're getting at there? Or was it general info.

donquixotedelamancha · 16/11/2021 22:45

There have been lots of allegations of Iran doing this before, I think this will be the ninth time. When you look at the photos of the alleged male players (now and previously) it's very hard to believe they are female.

Redshoeblueshoe · 16/11/2021 22:49

A picture paints a thousand words . . . .

Iran homosexuality is illegal max punishment death. Or... Have full sex change - hormones surgery whole shebang.

Indeed, I believe reassignment is paid for by the state.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 16/11/2021 23:19

I started a thread about this earlier as it was reported in the press. I posted an article from today's Times.
MHNQ removed the thread for "a lot of speculation on this thread which we don't think is in the spirit so we've removed it" .
Confused

CheeseMmmm · 16/11/2021 23:23

Well let's tread carefully then.

My view is poor sod.

OppsUpsSide · 16/11/2021 23:41

I'm not sure what you're getting at there?

I think they mean Thailand’s high rates may be, in part, down to medical tourism, which as you say is unlikely to be the case for Iran. So what is going on? Transition is legal, homosexuality is illegal and punishable by death. But of course, no one would want to make an assumption.
From what I have read, Iran expects full transition, it doesn’t appear that Koudaei has fully transitioned yet. I can understand the confusion.

buckeejit · 17/11/2021 00:38

Why does it reference gender rather than sex? Is it a medical issue or a beliefs issue to them?

Iran sounds horrific. I thought my hometown was a bad place to be if you were gay ☹️ so so sad that there is an accepted view that genital reassignment surgery is ok but same sex attraction is not

CheeseMmmm · 17/11/2021 00:49

It's not an assumption.

Iran offers transition to avoid being punished for being gay.

Not complicated.

CheeseMmmm · 17/11/2021 00:58

If you Google there's plenty about Iran and homosexuality and transitioning.

Has been for a few years but. This is just wtf. When I googled earlier there's now a load of stuff about how Iran is really good when it comes to trans rights. I skimmed one. It noted the fact homosexuality is illegal max punishment death. Then it's great for trans they pay for surgery change documents etc.

I mean that's one hell of a disconnect. And you know. We're talking about Iran FFS. Progressive and awesome on trans rights...? Complete with interviews saying how marvellous it is there? I suppose if Iran can put a positive spin on their extremely patriarchal, repressive regime then they'll take it Confused

Helleofabore · 17/11/2021 09:19

I was very interested in the statement released by Iranians.

It mentioned hormone levels. If that person was a female, I doubt hormone levels would be mentioned.

But with the IOC’s wimp out on making women’s sport safe and fair, and Iran’s history of doing this in the past, I suspect Jordan may be disappointed in the outcome of the investigation.

And that this madness will surely continue until some significant data has been able to be collected that proves that mediocre males do not get to be in the female sports categories. And just because that individual doesn’t ‘win’ doesn’t mean they don’t have unfair advantage.

Doubletoilandtrouble · 17/11/2021 10:09

I wish they investigate this thoroughly and that only biological women are allowed to play.

Mediocre males who have transitioned should not be allowed to play in the women’s teams. I actually wish that Ibrahimovic would “find his inner woman”. Ibrahimovic is 40, still plays forward for AC Milan and was recently banned from the Swedish World Cup play off due to a second yellow card (pretty vicious shoulder budge). If Ibrahimovic decided to go for a second career as a female player (in a year or two), at least any hormone level controlled transwomen would have someone their own size to play against. Not sure they would like it though. And it would get the point out there for everyone to see.
