Sex Matters: ban on 'conversion therapy' bill isn't what people think!

I thought this bill on conversion therapy was about banning gay conversion therapies, but it's not, because those are already illegal. It's about banning doctors from questioning trans teens about the nature of their gender dysphoria - in other words making sure that they unquestioningly 'affirm' those seeking puberty blocking drugs and other interventions, in other words not trying to 'convert' them to their original gender. THIS LAW IS BEING PROPOSED BY STONEWALL, MERMAIDS, and others.

Sex Matters is asking constituents to write to their MPs and pressure the government to allow time for the proper consultation, rather than rushing this legislation through, which is apparently the current intention.

Link to Sex Matters website, which has a proforma email ready to go - all you have to do is fill in your and your MP's information: sex-matters.org/posts/sex/press-pause-on-conversion-therapy-law/

I'm so terrified for our children if this bill passes. And for their teachers, parents and therapists. It really is critical as many people as possible complete this.

Bumping this. I've just been perusing the Stonewall Twitter account and it's full of praise for this Bill.

Please don't regret not filling this in.

Write to your MP as well if possible. As a reminder, info here:

Another bump.

It’s really important that as many people as possible look into this!!

Incase anyone’s not aware of what this is about and what we’re up against:

And if you think it couldn’t happen here - look at the bill, look at the court ruling that puberty blockers may be prescribed for under 16s without parental consent, in the UK. Ask your kids in secondary school about the culture in school.

Find out. Take the red pill, before it’s too late. Please.

I've read the consultation document, and it will make it illegal for parents to talk to their own children. You can be imprisoned for up to 5 years I think.

Just copying this quote across from another thread

Without first getting proper definitions in place, defining what we even mean by conversion therapy in the modern context, we could be walking into a nightmare where we are actually removing valuable treatment options for those people who do not wish to medicalise dysphoria.

I am one of those people. I have dysphoria and I reject medicalising my condition. I am able to maintain good mental health through talking therapy and I find transition to be a conversion in&of itself. I would ask you not to limit the options of young people with this condition.
