Christmas cards: which charities acknowledge women exist?

MinervaBoudicca · 14/11/2021 12:39

So, in the past would happily buy cards from oxfam, amnesty etc but as they seem to have doubts that the female sex exists, I’m having to select my Xmas cards more carefully this year.
Samaritans seem good. Is there one for female refuges or similar?

Not related but I always do RSPB.

IsabelGowdie · 14/11/2021 12:53

I may be wrong but I think ActionAid have jumped on the gender woo bandwagon.

I’ll check but someone may know.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 14/11/2021 12:55

You could have a look for speakers at the Filia conference.
They might not do Christmas cards but you could buy cards elsewhere and make a donation.
Also, lots of authors were speaking and books make nice presents.

IsabelGowdie · 14/11/2021 12:55

I reckon you should be fine with RNLI. I can’t see the folk hauling you out of the sea in a Force 10 giving a shit about glitter.

I really hope I am not wrong.

Ekofisk · 14/11/2021 12:56

Even the RSPB bows to EDI:

45% of Senior Managers and 30% of Trustees will be female or non-binary.

Manderleyagain · 14/11/2021 12:59

Yes it was action aid who said there's no such thing as a biologically female or male body in emails to donors querying things. There will be threads on here. I think the organisation back tracked a bit on actually denying the existence of sex, but they consider a girl to be anyone who says they're a girl.

I don't know if they do Christmas cards, but filia, Bpas and maternity action all know what a woman is.

IsabelGowdie · 14/11/2021 13:00

ActionAid are on the naughty list.

According to an article…
ActionAid's policy on trans issues came under scrutiny after a supporter sent an email requesting that it use the term “sex” instead of “gender” in its campaigning material. In the charity's response, a member of staff used the phrase: “ActionAid UK understands there is no such thing as a ‘biologically female/male body’.” -

I used to support Womankind, but I see they have posted on FB asking women to be good “trans allies”, complete with flag.
So they are now literally, and pun intended,
off my Christmas card list.

That's just awful

Bollocks….

the RNLI are a Stonewall Diversity Champions. However, I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt as they rightly cite sex and sexual orientation as a protected characteristics.

And tbh considering that Stonewall was universally praised to the sky as being the only thing to support to prove you are not a raging homophobe, I don’t blame them.

Come on out now though…

BelleOfTheProvince · 14/11/2021 14:48

I'd imagine scope are more focused on helping those with disabilities than pushing ideology but I could be wrong.

Artichokeleaves · 14/11/2021 17:23

Almost all of the big charities will be led by people with Stonewall based politics, its a sector absolutely stuffed with liberate elite who periodically all change seats and roles in that group of charities. They employ only from the politically compatible and it's a bit land of the bean and the cod, where the compliant talk only to Stonewall and Stonewall talks only to Boris.

Go for the small local ones, where even the top brass are doing grass roots work, and pretty much all the money will be going to the cause and not to run a well paid, well staffed business with ever more excitingly political policy.

Yes they have sadly.
Namechangeforthis88 · 14/11/2021 17:26

Damn, think I switched a direct debit from something like NSPCC to Womankind for specific reasons. I'll have to look again now. Also sponsor through Action Aid. Running out of charities.

Namechangeforthis88 · 14/11/2021 17:54

Emailed ActionAid and Womankind. That will potentially save me a few quid, especially if I can't find any charities that know what a woman is.

Babdoc · 14/11/2021 17:57

I did post on Womankind’s FB, pointing out the many conflicts between TRA demands and women’s rights, and predictably got the inevitable over emotional idiot calling me a terf bigot and claiming I “hate” trans people.
It’s such a shame, as WK have done some sterling work supporting women in third world countries, with legal aid to keep their land, training African school girls in assertiveness and as counsellors, working with local partner organisations to support refuges etc.

WitchButNotTheFunKind · 14/11/2021 18:14

Here’s Sex-matters list of organisations that are Stonewall Diversity Champions. Scroll down to the voluntary sector. It’s not 100% up to date sex-matters.org/stonewall-champions-list/

Cancer Research were in the Stonewall scheme a few years back and changed all their language to erase women however they have come out of the scheme and redone the language on their website to refer to women again. Maybe select them for Christmas cards as they did do the right thing (eventually)

IsabelGowdie · 14/11/2021 19:52

The fact that Cancer Research has come back from the brink is great news.
I’ve been donating loads of stuff to charity shops in the town. Oxfam is getting nowt, and I was avoiding Cancer Research as well.
Age Concern was getting everything.

Very useful thread, thanks everyone.

PDSA, a few of my neighbours are pensioners and I know that the PDSA is the reason they manage to have their companion pets.

BrilliantBetty · 14/11/2021 21:19

I've gone for a small local hospice charity shop cards this year. Partly because they're on my doorstep and partly because
I just don't feel comfortable with the big charities at the moment.

BraveBananaBadge · 14/11/2021 21:43

No Christmas cards, but just general charity recommends - Making Herstory and O's Refugee Aid Team are both founded by the author Onjali Rauf and have been mentioned on these boards before.

Me too.
drspouse · 14/11/2021 21:50

I'm wondering about World Vision as they are one of the few charities working in Afghanistan at the moment. Anyone know anything?
Or I may go for an adoption or fostering charity.
