Judges "trained" by Stonewall

TheFormerChild · 08/11/2021 20:01

~ Am I reaching here? Am I wrong? Judges are intelligent, critical thinkers.

How can they be "trained" to believe that sex or gender is assigned at birth? How can judges be "trained" to believe such codswallop?

Nobody could "train" me to believe this nonsense.

I'd love to see a transcript of the "training". Can anyone help with this?

Unbelievable isn't it OP?

Here's a devastating take down of whet's wrong with the Bench book by a barrister:

And here's Maya Forstater explaining her court case where she's trying to find out about this oh so top secret trans training for our allegedly independent judiciary:

Sex Matters has something on their website about training but you may find this an interesting read about the Equal Treatment Bench Book. It's a bit of a long one. On my phone it goes straight to the document but on my pc it looks like it needs downloading.

dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 08/11/2021 20:23

It is unbelievable but we can be grateful that some have ignored it....i.e. the eventual Forstater ruling.

Shedbuilder · 08/11/2021 20:49

I've seen it explained as lots of middle-class public school white male judges being aware of and guilty about their privilege, so when Stonewall rocked up telling them that transgender people were the most marginalised and picked-on and traumatised group in society they fell over themselves to show how liberal and progressive they were. And of course it gave them a legitimate outlet for their misogyny — as the judge at Maya's first employment tribunal proved so beautifully when he declared her GC beliefs to be unacceptable.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 08/11/2021 23:53

Spot on Shedbuilder
It's the same thing that galvanised the Conservative government to enable this ideology. Of course, they're now engaged in a mass reverse ferret ( but trying to hide it) as the full awfulness of what they've funded has become apparent.

LonginesPrime · 09/11/2021 00:10

I do hope you're right, MrsOvertonsWindow.

seethesuninwintertime · 09/11/2021 08:40

Maya’s first judge was just an employment tribunal judge which is fairly separate from being a full high court judge

I can’t see how my last post broke the rules, but let me try and rephrase it.

In my cynical opinion, an unknowable proportion of middle class, middle aged male judges are going to be willing to get on board the Stonewall gravy train because they recognise that it will help the, often later-in-life, transitioners who come from the same societal, sexed and ethnic backgrounds as themselves.

When you look at an organisation like the Masons (which has lots of judges as senior members), you see how the rules are interpreted such that male to female transitioners are allowed to join and/or keep their existing memberships. Female to male transitioners are not allowed to join. Stonewall law is applied when it provides the “correct” outcome

TimOTey · 09/11/2021 08:59

The corruption runs far and wide.

I found this a helpful insight into some judges.

The vast majority of judges are decent men. They want to do the right thing. They also tend to be MC, white and privileged with little to no understanding of the trans issues raging.

It’s a dangerous combination. They don’t want to say or do the wrong thing so they lap up the training given by lobby groups, legitimately believing in what they’re told and genuinely fearing that they might actually be bigots when they find this stuff doesn’t make sense.

Guess what? He got promoted (unfortunately I can't remember his name)
YetAnotherSpartacus · 09/11/2021 09:48

Does anyone remember the closing scene from the movie 'Personal Services'?

Judge James Tayler.

I think partly this - no-one wants to be the latest 'who are the Beatles' type to get shoved on the front page with a picture of you looking ridiculous in an 18th century wig, so for many, it is easier just to nod along with the message. Much of the time the training at the Judicial College is like being hit repeatedly over the head with a copy of the Guardian anyway, there's zero attempt made to engage critical thinking on any of the E&D seminars.

And also, in part, just not understanding/caring. It would only impact a male judge if he failed to stick to the ETBB because there would be real professional ramifications, there would be no ramifications for him if a TW goes to a women's jail or a rape victim has to say 'her penis'.

Imnobody4 · 09/11/2021 10:36

It's not just male judges. In Kate Scottow's case the female judge said 'we teach our children to be kind' when finding her guilty.

seethesuninwintertime · 09/11/2021 11:42

I don't think mr taylor has become a high court judge....

seethesuninwintertime · 09/11/2021 11:47

I don't know if this is helpful or not but just to give people a flavour, lots of litigation solicitors apply to become employment tribunal judges if they are a bit short of work. There was a period a couple of years ago where there were fewer unfair dismissal claims so everyone applied to be a judge but found there weren't any cases to hear.

It doesn't pay very well and it's often like a side-hustle. It looks good on your CV.

Similarly with data protection tribunal judges, property tribunal judges, etc.

I can't speak for the quality of the training but it's no big thing to become one and easier than making partner in your law firm in many ways.

But I don't know Mr Taylor or what he got promoted to.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 09/11/2021 11:50

No but His Honour Judge James Tayler is now more senior than he was as he's now a senior circuit judge.
