TRA understanding of 'what is a woman'?

Hi all,

I'm really trying to understand this. Can anyone point me to a resource that explains what the TRA definition of what a woman is?

I've tried so hard to find one, and I can't.

A woman is anyone who says they are.

Anothernamechange3 · 04/11/2021 12:47

Time magazine has an article that says this: An “adult human female,” according to a seemingly common-sense slogan seen on the T-shirts and laptop stickers of those who oppose the idea that transgender women are women.

No, Time magazine, that is actually the DICTIONARY DEFINITION.

NotTerfNorCis · 04/11/2021 12:47

They really can't answer that. 'A woman us anyone who says they are a woman.' It's a social identity for them, but they understand how reactionary that sounds and don't like to admit it.

Anothernamechange3 · 04/11/2021 12:50

If you find out please let me know.

Whatwouldscullydo · 04/11/2021 12:52

I'm.all ears on that too.

I want to know what a woman identity is so I know of I have one.

I have honestly been searching for about 3 months for a definition from that perspective, but nothing.

It's actually quite hard when it appears the other argument is gobbledegook. I feel like my perspective is obvious.

Gender is just an intuition or feeling I think - an innate sensation, which can fluctuate from hour to hour, and which can't be identified externally in any way, only in your own thoughts.

Which is a terrifying sort of idea really, the kind of thing that would have driven me a bit mad worrying about it as an (overly analytical, autistic) teenager...

Anothernamechange3 · 04/11/2021 12:57

Funnily enough, if I google ‘what is man?’ in a similar way to retrieved said Time article plus lots more, it doesn’t seem such a complex, unanswerable question…..

Anothernamechange3 · 04/11/2021 12:57

*what is a man?

Helleofabore · 04/11/2021 13:01

Well, let's wait patiently here. There will be a slew of answers coming across from the twitter 'monitors' soon.

The whole idea that the definition of a category could possibly be 'anyone who thinks they're in that category' is just mind-bogglingly stupid. I mean... for a start, it's just not even a definition. And secondly, does that mean that if I say I'm Chinese, or a giraffe, or a spoon, I actually am?

Spoon! Lol!
Vanishun · 04/11/2021 13:17

The thing is, once you have the concept of gender instead of sex, it is logical that gender is just something identifiable by you in your own your head.

And because it's all tied up confusingly with the other kind of "sex", with puberty and feelings and attractions, it's a huge mental minefield when you take these things seriously.

Saying "I am a spoon" or "I am 93 years old" is demonstrably absurd. Saying "I am Chinese" is a little more tenuous (and most woke people would hesitate in case you are in a "gotcha" way) - but it's still usually something you can "see".

There's nothing else quite like "gender", except religion and political beliefs (because really, it's one of those).

Jaxhog · 04/11/2021 13:18

It's a question I'd like to know the answer to too. The only commonality that I can see is the desire to be called 'she' and to wear 'womens clothes'. Very few want a fully female body other than having 'breasts'.

I'd like to ask the many transwomen I know, but it seems to be a question you just can't ask.

GenderAtheist · 04/11/2021 13:20

Just place marking for when we get an answer.

flyingbuttress43 · 04/11/2021 13:22

To me, a man saying I am a woman is as patently absurd as saying they are a giraffe or a spoon.

Naunet · 04/11/2021 13:24

Most recent answer to that I’ve had is woman is a social role. They couldn’t clarify what that role was though…

Queenoftheashes · 04/11/2021 13:24

I would love to know how they identify women who can’t confirm they identify as such. Eg if a TRA finds a dead naked body and calls the police and the police say is it a dead man or a dead woman… what do they say? It’s a human body with no visible penis but I don’t know how it identifies?

PandaParty · 04/11/2021 13:25

Have a look at this drivel, OP.

Maybe therein lies the answer, it is all about how you drink you're tea. Brew
CiaoForDiNiaoSaur · 04/11/2021 13:27

Following for when if we ever get an answer. Not holding out much hope though.

Ratherly · 04/11/2021 13:28

I'm all ears too.

Actually does that mean I AM all ears? Mind boggling.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 04/11/2021 13:30

I think it means they love doing all the housework and child care while earning 20% less than men who do the same job.

Something like that anyway

GenderAtheist · 04/11/2021 13:30

I’d also like to know if this definition of woman - anyone who says they are - applies to any other words in the English language.

For example - is a medical practitioner or school teacher anyone who says they are? Rather than the current exclusionary practice of “ anyone who is registered with the general medical council or general teaching council “.

Would you be happy for a self identified dentist to drill holes in your teeth? Why not? If you don’t recognise them as a dentist it’s literal violence and a hate crime .

What about products - are they wherever the seller feels that they are? Can I sell my old Ford as a brand new BMW because I feel that’s what it is?

Can my local shops sell out of date food that identifies as in date ?

Can I identify as an MP and attend the House of Commons ? Or identify as 70 and get my pension ?

And if not why not ? Why do all words mean something except the word “ woman “?

TeamRex · 04/11/2021 13:30

To me, a man saying I am a woman is as patently absurd as saying they are a giraffe or a spoon.

One of the great achievements of gender identity ideology has been making people think it's a bit unusual for a man to state he's a woman but not patently absurd.

I think it comes down to telling a really big lie works better than small ones. And that weird emperor's new clothes thing where people feel they can't point out the obvious because everyone else appears to be taking it seriously.
