Publisher of Diva magazine suggests lesbians are lying about being pressured into sex with trans women

The publisher Linda Riley quotes:

“In all my years publishing DIVA Magazine, the leading and longest running magazine for LGBTQI women, I have never heard from a lesbian who says she has been pressurised into having sex with a trans woman. BBC News is reinforcing myths that are simply not true”.

Lesbians respond to her comment en masse, telling her that they have been pressured into sex with trans women (which let’s face it, is rape) and she ignores them, deletes their comments and has them blocked from her online Diva group.

Does she truly believe lesbians are making it all up?

Is she so entwined with Stonewall and trans activism she daren’t backpeddle?

Is she scared she will be the next target or death threats and harassment like JKR or Kathleen Stock?

It’s really cowardly behaviour and is alienating her core readership.

I agree with you but I wanted to give Ms Riley the benefit of the doubt, though she doesn't deserve it.

Seeing as Linda Riley defines lesbians who won't consider males as sexual partners to be transphobic she's got herself into a bit of a pickle.

That is utterly disgusting.

Women discussing pressure and coercion is framed as 'myth'.

Abhorrent.

The actual Stonewall statement on it shows that there’s a problem for lesbians. All the stuff about prejudice.

ScreamingMeMeSawUs · 30/10/2021 12:53

This isn't thr first time Linda has done this. I seem to remember when I was on twitter she made a similar pronouncement and was inundated with evidence, which she ignored. She's an absolute disgrace.

FlyingOink · 30/10/2021 15:38

She's big on "sex work is work", supported "Fuck You Pay Me", had strippers in Candy Bar, she's not exactly a feminist so it's really not news that she's taken the side of rapists over their victims really.

While that's undoubtedly true, this is the woman involved in the Jack the Ripper museum. It's not that she knows and is afraid to speak up for fear of the consequences. She doesn't want to. She doesn't care. If she was a man, we'd have no problem acknowledging a wrong 'un.

Totally agree.

It's easy to accidentally think of businesses which specifically serve minorities as being almost charitable, or at least politically progressive, and of course many are. But plenty aren't.

(Paused over the label "politically progressive" there as of course TRAs would consider their position to be such, including women who somehow find a feminist position therein; but the Ripper crap demonstrates that Riley has no feminism, so that's neither here nor there really.)
