Just got back from a day out to a large venue on London. Toilets have been made unisex since my last visit there. Ok , full floor to ceiling cubicles in a fairly open space all in a row. I'm thinking probably won't be a problem. Go to the loo with my dc after a man came out.
He'd kindly left piss absolutely all over the seat all down the middle of the loo and a puddle on the middle but at the base of the loo. We were the first arrivals there, he definitely achieved all of this in his quick nip to the loo. Was disgusting and I had to clear it up before my dc could go. Who knows what happens when the venue is at max capacity, we were there for a small visit in an off peak time.
Thinking of complaining to the venue. I'd at least want some non unisex loos just to have the choice.
Just so annoyed with this whole unisex thing. It doesn't work. If a man went in after me he probably could have stood either side of the puddle and created a whole new one but not me, I had to clean it Angry

RightsHoardingStegasaurus · 29/10/2021 20:44

Complain complain complain!

KittenKong · 29/10/2021 20:52

God complain. You will spend your time chaperoning kids to the loos and wiping other men’s pee. Yuk.

CrossOldWoman · 29/10/2021 20:56

I used to be responsible for "facilities" in my job. The lovely cleaners - almost always women - complained regularly about the golden puddles and pebble-dashing in the Gents. Why on God's earth should women have to accept this.

2319inprogress · 29/10/2021 21:10

Definitely complain!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/10/2021 21:17

It's not just the piss all over the place, it's the far greater likelihood of spy cams etc

SirSamuelVimes · 29/10/2021 21:21

Complain. Loudly.

WonderfulYou · 29/10/2021 21:25

Don’t complain.
It sounds like there’s more than one toilet so just go into a different one.
If you complain you will be getting a cleaner in trouble just because they hadn’t had a chance to clean it yet.

I personally would prefer male, female and unisex toilets.
I find it more comfortable to walk into a female bathroom and then into a female cubicle as it doesn’t feel as safe washing your hands being the only female surrounded by 5 men but maybe that’s my own issues.

However I’m not sure the unisex toilets have any relevance over how clean they are as a few days ago I went into one after an elderly women had used it, she had explosive diarrhoea all over the seat, floor and walls. She was very apologetic and embarrassed and I wouldn’t have dreamt about complaining.

ceriseflowers · 29/10/2021 21:37

@WonderfulYou this is a huge venue we had to queue and we were only in a small group due to being part of a special event not related to their usual events business. I can't even imagine if we went to an actual full event how bad this could get. It doesn't make sense to me for the men either tbh.

I don't think a cleaner would get into trouble as no cleaner could have got there between me going in after the man as I had a rather desperate young dc. I didn't see a cleaner anyway. The other loos were all taken.

The difference is I believe that this situation would occur a lot more than a woman having explosive problems as well as the fact she apologised so you had a choice to use that loo or choose another, this man didn't have any worries about leaving it like that for me and dc, as I rejoined him in our group straight afterwards and he made no mention of it as I went into the loo after him.

Yes complain

Sexnotgender · 29/10/2021 21:49

Gross, definitely complain.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 29/10/2021 21:52

I'd register my displeasure through a comment/complaint.

Bloodybridget · 29/10/2021 21:53

Hang on - it was a man in your group who pissed on the floor and the seat? You should have complained to him, did you?

KimikosNightmare · 29/10/2021 21:59

Why on earth did you clean it up? You said there were other cubicles. I would have used another cubicle and ,if there was anyone around to mention it to , point out the cubicle had been left in an unusable condition.

Oh and to the poster who said complaining would just get a cleaner into trouble- what nonsense. Pointing out there is something wrong with the facility is perfectly valid. The cleaners can't be permanently on duty.

FlyingOink · 29/10/2021 22:02

How grim. Definitely complain.

NoNotMeNoSiree · 29/10/2021 22:36

Why on earth did you clean it up?

This, I mean I'm not bloody doing that!
If it was as bad as you say, all over the seat and a puddle as well, I'd have thought '' grim!'' and gone into another cubicle/waited for one to become free, not play dodge the piss on the floor and clean it up myself!

ceriseflowers · 29/10/2021 22:52

@KimikosNightmare because the other cubicles were taken by the time I'd gone in coming out would have resulted in queuing longer and my dd was desperate for the loo by the time I'd seen the piss everywhere.

@Bloodybridget no I did not. Does that make it not worth complaining though?

OP posts:
FlyingOink · 29/10/2021 23:34

The problem is having to share with men, not the cleaners or whether OP should have wiped it up or gone to another cubicle or told the man off (try proving it was his piss and not someone else's, not a conversation most of you would have I'm sure)
Complain. Unisex toilets are often grim, and changing them unannounced is bad customer service.

NiceGerbil · 30/10/2021 01:51

I think complaining on its own is fairly pointless-

But worth it with a suggestion of what you would like them to do to make facilities better.

NiceGerbil · 30/10/2021 01:54

Doesn't make any sense.
Unisex cubicles for all... Means

No urinals for men. Quick in and out gone. Have to queue. That's not better for them.

Longer queues for women as men queuing as well.

So rubbish for all.

Bloodybridget · 30/10/2021 06:38

@ceriseflowers well, no, assuming you're telling the venue that having unisex cubicles will inevitably lead to this unpleasant situation for women (it's pretty horrible for the male users too; I assume they don't enjoy using dirty loos that smell of piss). And I can imagine how you might not have wanted to confront the man, I probably wouldn't have myself, but I might have made some loud comment to no-one in particular about the state of the toilet.

ceriseflowers · 30/10/2021 09:26

@NiceGerbil yes I am going to suggest
m/f/u based on my experience yesterday which I actually think would be possible with the current loos anyway.

Thanks all I will say something as I would much much have preferred to have female loos.

If you were the first arrivals there, is there a reason you couldn't go in another cubicle?

Got to say, in my 40 odd years of using the women's toilets I've found them in a disgusting state plenty of times, the notion that this is specifically a problem with unisex toilets doesn't really hold up.
