Blogger commissioned Panelbase research: scotgoespop.blogspot.com/2021/10/exclusive-scot-goes-pop-panelbase-poll_28.html?m=1

No idea if he's reliable but the research looks reasonable.

those who would have us believe absurdities ...'

… “can make us commit atrocities”!

So true. Are we allowed to comment on ‘affirming’ confused teenagers in their wish to have mastectomies, etc?

Stealhsquirrelnutkin · 30/10/2021 00:07

Only 4% of LibDems support self-ID??? So why do LibDem politicians campaign so vociferously for self-ID? I thought their members must be passionate TRAs, but apparently not.

Glinner has the answer, he just updated us earlier today.

I’m not so proud that I can’t admit when I’ve got it wrong, and recently, I’m afraid, I got it wrong.

Specifically, I said that Ferring Pharmaceuticals, a producer of puberty-blocking drugs, gave over £100,000 to the Lib Dems. The thing about this fight is that you always forget how big and insane the numbers actually are. The amount Ferring gave to the Lib Dems over the years 2013-2019 is actually £1,454,258.27.

It's really hard to think of any reason why the Lib Dems might be choosing to ignore their membership, remove vital child safeguarding protections, and strip women of their sex based rights. Total mystery.

Also, vowing to spend the rest of your life living as a man can include immediately going out of your way to get pregnant, giving birth and demanding to be listed on your child's birth certificate at the father. Words mean whatever some people want them to mean, there are no lies any more, just alternative truths.

Compare and contrast with civil partnerships and gay marriage, which weren't taken seriously by politicians until a majority of the public were in favour.

(Majority just within the non-religious for civil partnerships, but a majority overall by the time they did marriage).

Politicians absolutely were not ahead of the public then.

Interesting that Rhiannon Spears has stepped down just a month from the SNP conference. As she is a hard-line trans rights activist is this significant?

MiladyBerserko · 31/10/2021 07:43

Anyone know why Rhiannon Spears has stepped down?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 31/10/2021 08:08

It has been suggested on twitter that the split in the party over the GRA is becoming unsustainable. That is just a twitter rumour though.

yestheyhavethesamedad · 31/10/2021 08:13

Isnt there also a rumour that a certain recently resigned snp member was one of the complainants against marion miller

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 31/10/2021 08:34

The reach of an idea that nobody believes that we should implement policies that nobody wants always amazes me

money, money, money

Scotland is small. These people have been bought and paid for

when people behave in a way that appears to be against their best interests, they're normally being paid to do so

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 31/10/2021 08:34

Not a rumour. It was on the BBC that Rhiannon Spears and David Paisley were the complainants.

Helleofabore · 31/10/2021 09:44

Perhaps Spears was quietly asked to leave early as SNP finally understood it is not a great look that the women’s convenor be known for harassing women.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 31/10/2021 09:47

@LaetitiaASD

If it was more clearly worded they would have talked about the impossibility of changing sex and asking which people should have access to changing rooms full of 13 year old girls

(1) Anyone, boner or not
(2) Anyone who says they're a woman, boner or not
(3) Anyone who has a gender dysphoria diagnosis, boner or not
(4) Anyone who has a GRC, boner or not
(5) Anyone who is penis-free
(6) Anyone biologically female (ie no-one born male)

I suspect you could get the numbers in support of self ID down massively from 20% by being even clearer.

Clearest description yet!
Diaryofamadwoman · 31/10/2021 12:40

Spears might have been asked to leave because the optics look bad on this particular story - but the optics remain a disgrace overall. The SNP depend on Green support and if you drew a venn diagram of the parties main concerns the only real crossover is GRA reform (Independence might lurk somewhere beneath that but it's clearly not the priority). I don't see how they can back out of it even if (huge if) they wanted to.

SayYouDontMind · 31/10/2021 12:57

Anything on Rhiannon Spear's Twitter about her resignation? I used to go on Twitter and look after quitting it but you can't do that anymore without signing in. Really helped me kick my habit. I Wonder who will step into her shoes?

334bu · 31/10/2021 14:15

You can read posts on Twitter if you go to someone's profile page and then open page in incognito mode. On my phone I can see tweets if I open in safe browser.

334bu · 31/10/2021 14:22

Had a look at her Twitter account and nothing there.
Found Drive time clip where the complainants in the Marion Miller case are named. From 12.10

Quoted on the BBC, so more than a rumour, I'd say. V interesting to hear Spear has stood down. Not altogether surprised.
TheABC · 31/10/2021 15:18

That reminds me; has the Scottish Government published their consultations on this issue, yet? They are quoted in the Times as saying they did two, but I can't recall seeing the results.

RVN123 · 02/11/2021 11:34

Its the utter insidious and stealthy nature of the proposals that anger me. If the issue were given the sunlight and publicity it needs so that NORMAL people on the street knew what was happening, there would be a much bigger backlash.
I'm in Scotland BTW.
Its people like my 70 year old Mum I worry about. We were recently confronted with a 6ft 5 TW in a bathroom on holiday, complete with five o'clock shadow, built like a massive brick outhouse, complete with terrible wig,, bad makeup and SKIN tight micro skirt. My Mum was horrified, it was very intimidating.
She had NO idea that this may become the new normal, and when I explained to her the 'new' rules, she was incredulous. She just hadn't heard about it, and didn't know. As I suspect the vast majority of older people don't know.
Who would actually believe it, in the normal world? That a man can just SAY they're a woman and get access to all female spaces? It's just bonkers.
They are making decisions for the majority of the population who would be very much against this if they knew the full implications; sharing a hospital ward, being intimately searched, intimately examined, sharing changing spaces, women's events etc.
It's horrifying.

Igneococcus · 03/11/2021 06:43

Times article today on trans prisoners in Scotland:

Mummyoflittledragon · 03/11/2021 07:28

I’ve just picked up this thread. As 29% of SNP voters support self ID, the objectors or undecided will be drowned out, we are likely to see more trans prisoners housed in the female population.

All we can hope is that this comes crashing down soon. It is starting. As we know.

I’m shocked by the 4% Lib Dem. I would love to vote for them but just can’t. Ditto Labour.

littlbrowndog · 03/11/2021 09:36

Cripes. Violent and sexual offenders self id men being put into women’s prisons.

My country 😖

Helleofabore · 03/11/2021 09:42

So, how does the Scottish government know it only has x transitioned males in their prisons?

It was discovered in that recent case that the MoJ doesn’t track transitioned prisoners and if a prisoner has a changed birth certificate, how would the Scottish system know?
