Christian Aid survey

Sigh Sad

Great aims, but yet another organisation getting sex and gender confused: starts off talking about "equality of gender" but later in the survey frequently mentions women and girls.
Which is it Christian Aid?

Oh dear. It asks for gender identity and then gives options of male and female.

On question 7, I think it is, there is a space to comment so I have said the above and that women and girls are discriminated against on the basis of their sex, not gender identity. And that male and female are biological sexes, not gender identities.

Chersfrozenface · 23/10/2021 08:51

WTF is a "minority gender"?

Mrsjamin · 23/10/2021 08:51

What the hell are minority genders?! Oh Christian Aid, you idiots. There's a comment section so please do fill this out, everyone.

Chersfrozenface · 23/10/2021 08:57

And next time the Christian Aid envelope comes through the door, it's going back with a stiffly worded note on the subject. And no money.

Piapiano · 23/10/2021 08:58

Do you know what, minority genders could work if it stops the erasure of women. I mean, I think the whole thing is nonsense but I'd rather they said something like women and minority genders when talking about menopause/smear tests etc. than just saying people.

GoodieMoomin · 23/10/2021 09:07

I'm really pissed off this morning and I've explained in great detail why their survey is SHITE!

  1. We'll need a robust definition of each "minority gender".
  1. Christian Aid are talking in far more general terms than medical issues in particular. Their apparent aim, though the waters are being thoroughly muddied, is to ask about the structural issues that affect WOMEN AND GIRLS on the basis of their SEX.

I applaud their aims, so I completed their survey, though commented about the gender/sex confusion on the FB link where I saw the survey.
Also commented within the survey where there was space.
And I selected the "other" option when given a list of genders to select from at the start of the survey.

I always tick "other" in similar situations, as I don't consider myself as having a gender. I'm a woman.
If we all did that, every time (I did it on the census too), I think it would be noted eventually.

Don't do that, the people who normally deliver Christian Aid envelopes are normally just a member of the local church. Not someone heavily involved in the organisation.

I did similar, OP.

But if you say women and minority genders it is read as if the word "women" means a gender identity rather than it being a reference to sex, which is the crux of the problem. If it was "women, including those with minority genders," then that would be a compromise that shows that the word women refers to sex, but which allows Christian Aid to demonstrate that they know that some people prefer to subscribe to a concept of gender identity instead of sex and think it is important to make it known (if Christian Aid thinks it is important to do so). I still really do not like it, but that his because in the current climate I see the attempt to normalize the concept of gender identity and to make it pre-eminent over sex as hostile to sex based rights (including those of transgender people). (I might feel differently if the aim was to have gender ideology recognised as a belief system rather than it aiming to overturn facts, science and useful vocabulary).
Piapiano · 23/10/2021 10:22

Yes I agree with this, "including" would be better.

I don't think the TRAs would accept it though.
