... in the FT last week:

''you have to take seriously the worry of some women that if requirements for a recognised change of gender are almost completely removed, some men who are not genuinely trans will take advantage.”

I can’t read the article (paywall), but Baroness Hale is a very good thing. I’ve met her a few times, and she is a lovely person and both extremely sharp and switched on, and also genuinely very feminist. She’s kind of the UK’s equivalent of Ruth Baden Ginsberg!

*Bader, sorry!

I can't access it, but I would appreciate a bit more of the relevant bits if anyone with access fancies pasting it in!

I also think Hale is a good thing. I am wary because of her the Supreme Court decision to allow a to have damages in order to pursue surrogacy in the US, but she is woman that I hugely respected.

*to allow a woman

Sorry.

Main point: nice to see this.

ArabellaScott · 23/10/2021 10:02

Oh, that's odd, it wasn't paywalled when I posted!

Sorry, I can't now access it either. I'll see if there's an archive.

Meanwhile:

'In a 2019 Girton College lecture entitled "100 Years of Women in Law",[29][30] Hale described the "Brenda Agenda" (a neologism coined by her Supreme Court colleague Lord Hope) as "quite simply, the belief that women are equal to men and should enjoy the same rights and freedoms that they do; but that women’s lives are necessarily sometimes different from men’s and the experience of leading those lives is just as valid and important in shaping the law as is the experience of men’s lives."[31]' (wiki)

I'm wary for the same reason Pale.
