Just thought I'd post a link to this interview. James comes across as such a lovely, decent bloke, and he has not been cowed or apologised for standing up for JKR and to TRAs. He speaks about this towards the end of the video.

I follow him on Twitter. I loved him in Gimme Gimme Gimme and The Thin Blue Line so that was why I looked him up but I am impressed at how strongly he is holding on to his beliefs and principles. He must have an incredibly thick skin considering some of the abuse he gets!

BoreOfWhabylon · 18/10/2021 12:37

He does seem to be a lovely man and has suffered real career damage for standing against the genderists.

Giggorata · 18/10/2021 13:44

Good for James. It is disgusting to leave him off the credits at Big Issue for political reasons. Is it even legal?
This kind of woke McCarthyism is destroying the BBC. It has already destroyed Dr Who.

Imnobody4 · 18/10/2021 15:20

Can only agree, James is one of the good guys.

Scraggythang · 18/10/2021 16:10

I love James. He gives the TRA’s a good as he’s got on Twitter. He doesn’t stand for bullying. If only there were more men like him speaking up. He knows what’s going on.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/10/2021 16:36

I think he's great too. The way he was treated over that Doctor Who thing was just rude and disrespectful apart from anything else.

FatAnkles · 18/10/2021 16:59

What a great interview. James is a lovely bloke, very grounded and down to earth. Andrew Doyle is an excellent interviewer too.

SpindelWhorl · 18/10/2021 16:59

I just watched it all, thank you for the link.

Was it the BBC that erased him from the list of actors who have played The Master?! Was it involved?

NChat · 18/10/2021 18:47

Don't worry Spindel, they checked with Stonewall, and it's ok.

Seriously though, I think it was Big Finish that done him wrong.

Ah yes, that's the audio company he mentions - thanks.

Giggorata · 19/10/2021 19:46

Big Issue?🙄 Duh, I meant Big Finish.

SoniaFouler · 22/10/2021 18:00

What was the Doctor Who thing?

NecessaryScene · 22/10/2021 18:07

What was the Doctor Who thing?

Doctor Who audio plays. Lots of the ex-Doctor and companion actors have a sideline making audio drama episodes, which Big Finish produces.

You can pull off quite a lot of Doctor Who-ness with a low budget if it's only "radio".

James Dreyfus was one of the people who played the Master in these - a number of episodes.

IIRC, they stopped working with him (fair enough), but the last story he had already recorded went out with him edited off of the credits and cover, and when they did a "best-of" compilation set with one story from each Master incarnation, he was uniquely left out.

Sexnotgender · 22/10/2021 18:13

He seems like a thoroughly decent bloke. One of the good guys.

SoniaFouler · 22/10/2021 19:30

@NecessaryScene Thank you. I now see what @Giggorata was asking when asking if it is even legal to not credit someone for their work?

zen1 · 22/10/2021 19:34

I’ve liked him since the 90s. I’m so pleased he’s not apologising for his beliefs. Seems like a lovely, genuine person.

SpringCrocus · 22/10/2021 23:48

He's a good un.

groundcontroltomontydon · 23/10/2021 08:28

He's a good un
Definitely - smart and thoughtful and articulate. It's so awful that he's had to endure such vile bullying - those responsible (individuals and organisations) should be ashamed.
