Giving to charity

I want to start setting aside a small amount of money each month to give away. Hear me out - there's a reason this is in the feminist section.

After reading on here for years and from past scandals (Stonewall, Oxfam etc) I'm fairly indifferent to the idea of giving to large charities. At best they seem to be fairly inefficient in their use of funds and at worst they become places that propagate abuse against the individuals they are are purporting to help.

Smaller, local charities often don't seem much better (allowing men in women's shelters for example). Altogether I'm quite disillusioned by the whole charity sector in this country.

Given this, how do you go about finding somewhere to donate money that aligns with your values? I'm open to suggestions of particular organisations or just how to assess how charities use their funding. Do you give to registered charities or do you prefer other means of giving (CrowdJustice etc)?
