This just popped up on my FB feed. Trying to work out how to phrase a reply!

I think there’s something missing…

ARGH! People really do hate women don't they?

Motorina · 15/10/2021 12:49

I know that they're technically correct, in that misogyny is not a hate crime. But it really should be!

It's not a hate crime if you abuse someone because of their sex. It's not covered.

And certain angry men certainly take advantage of the fact!

NecessaryScene · 15/10/2021 12:52

And why is a "hate crime" worse than a crime?

Piapiano · 15/10/2021 12:52

It really puts it into context that abusing a woman isn't a hate crime but abusing a person with any other protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010 is.

JaninaDuszejko · 15/10/2021 12:59

Not only does the poster not mention misogyny (which is legally correct) but it has a woman commiting the hate crime against a man with her grumpy female friends looking on.

Motorina · 15/10/2021 13:03

@Piapiano doesn't it just. It really does read, "You mustn't abuse any of these groups, but it's open season on women..."

I know the person in the photo-fit - it’s Meghan Markle!

FKATondelayo · 15/10/2021 13:34

All the abusers are women. The victim is a man. That's not an accident.

Piapiano · 15/10/2021 13:59

Oh yes because you frequently see women abusing disabled men on the bus 🙄

Whitefire · 15/10/2021 14:23

What is on that women's face? I feel I am missing something.

NorthernLion · 15/10/2021 14:52

Maybe it's the UK Women's Weightlifting Team minibus?

ColdAsMice · 15/10/2021 14:56

I don't understand this advert? Why are a load of women shown possible but not clearly tormenting a man in a wheelchair on a bus (not exactly a common situation) & what the heck does one of them have on her face?

RoyalCorgi · 15/10/2021 14:59

The poster is baffling, as ColdAsMice says.

It's also inaccurate. Hurling verbal abuse at someone because they are black, gay, transgender, whatever, is not a hate crime. A hate crime is an ordinary crime (say beating someone up) where hate is a motivating factor. So if you beat someone up because you didn't like the look of him, that's a crime. If you beat him up because he's gay, that's a hate crime.

Glad it isn't just me. Presumably they haven't refused to move for him. Perhaps he stood her up or dumped her in a horrid way. Maybe she is calling him vile names, we have no idea.
PaleBlueMoonlight · 15/10/2021 15:06

Harassment is a crime though (which requires two incidents I think), and that is usually what is being referred to when they describe this kind of thing as a hate crime. So the crime is harassment and it becomes a hate crime if that crime of harassment is seen as being motivated by hostility because of a relevant protected characteristic.

HollowTalk · 15/10/2021 15:08

I don't understand that poster at all. What's it even meant to be showing? And how many times do women insult men in wheelchairs?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/10/2021 16:13

I know the person in the photo-fit - it’s Meghan Markle!

It does bear a resemblance Grin
