So disappointed I so admire his work.
Apparently LGB Alliance is killing trans people by only having 3 letters. Don't know why he thinks this is clever instead of using just 3 letters he should try talking with with a radom set of consonants and 1 vowel.

I saw League Of Gentlemen some years ago on stage and they are very much on our side when it comes to this nonsense

When they did the reunion series there were some complains over Babs character and they just shrugged it off saying comedy is comedy and needs to be what it is

Out of all of them i can imagine Reece Sheersmith telling certain factions to eff off if they come for him as he is the grumpiest

I am a massive fan of Doctor Who but its finished now - I didnt even feel positive when they announced RTDs return after comments he made about only gay actors should play gay characters and his championing of the woke idiot from the band Years & Years. They even went with a non-story in the paper they he may be the first gay Doctor but I reckon that was just to test the waters

Tesla73 · 14/10/2021 11:41

Oh and i loved Dracula - had its iffy moments but overall it was excellent especially the actor playing Dracula

SpindleWharl · 14/10/2021 11:42

I think this is a real wolf attack. And many people shouting now are NOT remotely the people who were anti-gay in the 80s. LGB Alliance is predominantly former 80s gay rights campaigners.

Absolutely, @NecessaryScene. I'm really fucked off that my part in the 1980s in gay rights campaigning has been written out of history by men like RTD, just because I think a legitimate charity called LGBA has a role to play and a legal right to exist.

Don't try and obliterate me and my personal history, guys. Don't try and obliterate my role in 1980s social movements. It won't work because you're lying. I have always been a left-wing, atheistic, human rights supporting, pro-choice woman.

Don't even get me started on Matt Lucas.

MishyJDI · 14/10/2021 14:57

Good for him calling out the LGB Alliance for the hate group they really are. They do nothing for L, G, or B people. Just attack trans. It's all a scam in my opinion and more are waking up to them!

Lottapianos · 14/10/2021 15:12

'I thought It's A Sin was powerful and brilliant and also absolutely suggested RTD only sees women as support humans'

Completely agree. Both things can be true

That clip is....quite something. He seemed really quite pissed, but in vino veritas and all that. The first half of his speech was great, the second half sounded unhinged

As an L person, they're doing something for me.

They're speaking up and standing up for my right to be homosexual, and not be harassed for refusing to provide relationships and intercourse to a biological sex I feel no sexual attraction for. And my right as a woman to choose my own orientation and decide my own boundaries. And for people not to be hounded out of Pride and gay spaces for being homosexual after being told not to.

Quite important stuff.

If others perceive people being homosexual as 'hate' then that's their problem really.

Doesn't it get boring typing the same obvious lies over and over again?

Remember, your opinion simply isn't fact!

Helleofabore · 14/10/2021 15:40

Evidence please Mishy.

Or is this just another drive by slug at an organisation that you don't like because someone else on the internet didn't like them....

Specific evidence that they are a 'scam' and that they do 'nothing for L, G, or B people'.

You know that 'T' people belong to LGB Alliance don't you?

I admire your optimism

Do you wake every day thinking ‘todays the day mishy will back up a plop with a rational and insightful post that will make us all think’

Or are you more ‘same shit different day’

StillWeRise · 14/10/2021 16:45

hmm I have just watched the clip, I agree he may well be intoxicated but he must have prepared that speech with all the 3 letter words nonsense, no one can improvise that quickly. And then when the camera panned to the audience standing up I thought...it's a bit 'tomorrow belongs to me' really...

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 14/10/2021 16:57

Yes, I that he must have prepared the 3 letter word bit, it wasn't even clever from the off (largely because, as some else said, LBG is an acronym not a word) but he still massively overegged it and it just....didn't work

Plus, yep, he is clearly just another bloke who doesn't give a shit about women or their needs.

HDDD · 14/10/2021 17:00

I am not a fan of his so am predisposed to think he talks absolute tosh most of the time, but the timing on this, as the Stonewall pod drops, smacks massively of distraction/deflection by some very savvy lobbyists

Lottapianos · 14/10/2021 17:23

'Plus, yep, he is clearly just another bloke who doesn't give a shit about women or their needs.'

Indeed. Yet another big disappointment

merrymouse · 14/10/2021 17:40

@LolaLouLou

Was he around when John Barrowman was busy dropping his trousers? Or when Noel Clarke was harassing women?
Yes, that was his era.

He absolutely must have prepared and probably rehearsed that bit as it wouldn’t be easy to keep track of. Will make it harder to explain ‘that speech’ away as drink talking.

Although truth and logic don’t seem to matter in this ideology

merrymouse · 14/10/2021 17:48

I wonder if he is aware of Allison Bailey’s court case? Wasn’t this the catalyst for the formation of LGB Alliance?

TeamRex · 14/10/2021 18:23

I think he thought he was being clever. It definitely was prepared. Shame it was nonsense, both in content about the LGB Alliance and his ridiculous suggestion that no-one is allowed to create a charity for specific types of people.

Same stupid lies, different day.

Don't you bore yourself?

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 14/10/2021 19:50

Mishy - help me understand that. I thought the LGB Alliance were set up in order to help people who were being penalised because of their sexuality e.g. Allison Bailey, a black, working class lesbian who was being discriminated against in her work (allegedly) by, erm, Stonewall.

I do see hate, I wonder if it is the same hate that you see, though?

NecessaryScene · 14/10/2021 20:42

I wonder if he is aware of Allison Bailey’s court case? Wasn’t this the catalyst for the formation of LGB Alliance?

No, that post-dates it. The main impetus was the total stonewalling of an petition attempt to get them to address concerns with their approach

Not sure how I missed this from January 2023. 😂 Popping it in this thread for tidiness.

"Doctor Who’s showrunner has criticised a new wave of “rubbish” TV screenwriters who are more interested in diversity than television.
Russell T Davies, the award-winning writer who is <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.ph/o/cJb6i/www.telegraph.co.uk/tv/2021/10/30/scary-monsters-bin-spare-companions-russell-t-davies-must-do/" rel="nofollow" target="blank">overseeing future episodess of the long-running sci-fi favourite planned by the BBC, has decried the quality of emerging creatives.
Many script writers are in the television industry to “increase representation”, Davies has claimed, and their work is “rubbish”.
He said: “I do a lot of mentoring, and there are voices wanting to be heard – of any gender or ethnicity – who consider themselves invisible.
“They hate the media that ignores them, and they’re trapped into wanting a job in that medium purely to increase representation. I read their scripts and they’re rubbish.
“They don’t actually love television, so they don’t know how to write for it.”

‘Go and work on the bins’
Doctor Who has itself been criticised for pushing a <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.ph/o/cJb6i/www.telegraph.co.uk/tv/2022/10/24/doctor-who-jodie-whittaker-exits-should-bbc-bin-time-lord/" rel="nofollow" target="blank">perceived political agendaa with its recent storylines, which have included a time-travelling episode taking in the bus protest of Rosa Parks, and moves to make the main cast more diverse.
Davies, who revived the series in 2005, has returned as showrunner to oversee future episodes after the most recent run suffered a mixed reception, with a new series set to launch in 2023.
Fellow creative Mark Gatiss, speaking to The Sunday Times, also shared his concern about the quality of emerging TV creatives, saying: “Sometimes I think I’m like Pollyanna because I’ve met so many people over the years who hate making television.
“It seems to make them so miserable. Go and work on the bins or something. It’s hard work – it gives you ulcers – so you have to love it.”
Davies has suggested a method of increasing enthusiasm for television would be to make the entire back catalogue of Doctor Who available on iPlayer, saying that the programme is “our heritage” and “deserves to be there so kids can fall in love” with the series."
