Kathleen Stock deactivated her Twitter account

I just noticed, and others have mentioned, that despite lots of us being vocal with what support we could, that Dr Stock has now taken the decision to remove herself from Twitter. I just saw this from a commentator from lesbian and gay news:-

Just to say for anyone asking, I imagine Professor Stock has deactivated for the sake of her health following a union turning on her and colluding with a homophobic hate campaign against a lesbian.

I have no idea if she ever reads mumsnet but I can only offer whatever support I can and say that I've bought your book, so at least my small contribution will a little bit.

I have been contemplating sending an email of support (am not in academia, just outraged) - balance of wanting her to know people are rooting for her vs not wanting to contribute to what must be horrible and stressful email traffic at the min. Maybe here is a better place.

I admire her tenacity hugely. Hers is a consistently thoughtful, reflective, respectful and moderate voice in this debate, which is why I think it's pretty shocking that UCU have taken the unsupportive position they have, colluding with those who have misrepresented her. I hope this will prove a bit of a turning point for anyone willing to investigate even slightly whether the witch-hunters' claims are truthful: there are prominent GCs who do provide the odd soundbite to vindicate the TRAs (ranging from Bindel who I'd stand with anyway, to Posie Parker who I wouldn't), but any evidence of Stock's "transphobia" is just so lacking.

I hope she's as OK as possible. I'm grateful for her courage in the face of such vileness.

Will be buying her book when payday comes. I've also signed the GC academia statement, obviously with my real name but you know what, sod it. Enough is enough.

Horrible little scrotes, how fucking dare they? If I was the mum of those kids putting up posters and waving around flares in a sodding balaclava I'd be bloody ashamed. I've also reported that Instagram account, and the change petition that's popped up.

GAHgamel · 13/10/2021 09:46

She's also got her own dedicated "parody" account that needs reporting: @DrKathleenStock

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 13/10/2021 10:01

Bloody hell the state of that account - the post at the top ffs! Now that's actual transphobia, and they're trying to link her name to THAT, nasty fuckers Angry

Helleofabore · 13/10/2021 10:17

At least istandwithKathleenstock is trending this morning.

ComprehensiveTea · 13/10/2021 10:39

In today's Glinner's Good News, there's a mention of support for Pr Stock around the campus (this is the tweet he quotes: twitter.com/FMawcett/status/1446749543622664195/photo/1)

Looks like posters (or maybe leaflets) - either way, it seems to me it's an absolutely fantastic idea, and I'd love to see it amplified, it shows the accusations of "transphobia" as the naked bullyism (if that a word? you know what I mean, right?) they are.

Would love to see these posters up outside the uni, too, if that would help (though it might end up turning some people off, maybe).

You need to cut the last ) off that link to make it work

On Radio 4 this morning around 6.30 they reported on this. My hackles were rising but what they said was factual and fair, in particular that the accusation of transphobia was untrue. I guess that's BBC legal advice speaking, but nice to hear it spelled out.

DoesHePlayTheFiddle · 13/10/2021 14:21

I've ordered a second copy of the book. I went to a bookshop locally, part of a chain. The young woman (twenties) who placed the order for me was very frosty with me!

DrRamsesEmerson · 13/10/2021 14:30

I have it on Kindle, will also order a physical copy and a couple to give to other people.

Eh? Examined for what?

It would be nice to find some kind of measure about how aware the students of Sussex Seminary are actually aware of this scandal. How much tutoring is being performed on the premises as opposed to being live-streamed?

I imagine the embarrassment inflicted on them through University Challenge is well known, but do most of them, other than those putting-up posters as seen above, have any inkling that a degree gained from the Seminary is going to raise an eyebrow from many recruiters unless they can say that Doc Stock was one of their tutors.

Certainly Sussex's reputation as a research educational institute has been seriously dented, with its new image that debate and discussion is verboten unless performed within a tightly-defined scope - not what you need for say 'blue-sky' molecular biology research delivered from a top-class university research institute.

UCU didn't just throw Dr. Stock under-a-bus, they did the same for Sussex and academics there and elsewhere. They might not be forgiven, but we might be able to understand why, as it's now become abundantly clear that the Union is pursuing a transgender and transracial agenda of its own making, agreed by its members and unchallenged by students (such as say, black students).

For Sussex though, the only way to adequately resolve this scandal is to rule with an iron fist - which means ridding itself of its violent agitators - students and staff, and ensuring that Dr. Stock is able to work in her role without the need for enhanced security.

I had a look at this last night and can’t believe she’s been subject to so much abuse

Wasn’t a footballer protected recently from hate but not women like Kathleen?

I don’t get why we have to put up with it

One thing is Twitter is a cesspit bit still, it’s for her to modify behaviour

KohlaParasanda · 14/10/2021 09:30

She is wise to close the door and leave the mob frothing and spluttering into a void.

MarshaBradyo · 14/10/2021 09:31

Just realised I left out a not in that last line

Scraggythang · 14/10/2021 10:11

I’ve just bought Material Girls. If people can’t see this for what it is, then I’m at a loss.

Men can say and do incredibly insensitive and outright offensive things and experience nothing on this scale! Sometimes they’re even protected!

A woman expresses views based on logic and basic science and this is where she ends up?

Disgusting.

TheWeeDonkey · 14/10/2021 10:17

Can see a nice new payday purchase next week
