"Parenthood range" in primark

I haven't got the words at the moment so I'll come back in the morning. I have too many thoughts that I'd be incoherent. I'm trying to get round my own experiences of pregnancy and motherhood and trying to replace those with parenthood and not getting far.

Maternity pads and nursing bras will be renamed soon I bet. Mother's milk will be banned from our vocabulary.

They can take my words but they'll never take my experiences of womanhood and motherhood and all the hell and joy that's entailed so far.

The MEN online has questionable reporting at the best of times so the standard of this article is no surprise.

ffs.

This will be moved to the Sex and Gender topic, I presume.

I thought that's where I did post it but it's late so maybe not.

How hard can it be to say 'Mother'?

Will Mothers' and Fathers' day cards now morph into one Parent Day card. I suppose that would cut Hallmark's profits in half, so it will be unlikely. Not impossible.

never mind turquoise, it can happen to the best of us. Brew

I can't take much more of this.

Ironically, the last time I went into a physical Primark store looking for maternity clothes, it didn't sell any. For that matter, neither did Next, New Look or M&S. The other three places all told me that they no longer sell maternity ranges in their stores and I have to order online (by the time I got to Primark I didn't even bother asking). This was a few weeks ago.

So it looks like Primark doesn't cater for the actual pregnant woman who needs a few maternity staples in a hurry (I was just after some leggings) and yet is happy to cater to the lobbyists who want to divorce the words 'mother' and 'motherhood' from biological reality.

Also, 'parenthood' clothing ranges don't even make sense. I don't have an actual child yet - therefore not technically a parent - so clothes for 'parenthood' is an inaccurate description.

Moreover, my husband, who is also on the verge of parenthood will not need modified clothes for breastfeeding or require breast pads or maternity pads. These are not generic items for 'parents'.

Anyway. Glad there's been pushback.
