Okay so I had the most DISGUSTING INVALIDATING experience at heaven nightclub last night- a place where I am meant to feel free and accepted. Queuing to enter the club it splits into 2 lines- MAN and WOMAN- to be checked by seperate people. I am non-binary so OF COURSE I’m gonna queue in the women’s line in sheer protest of where I know they would expect me to queue based on my appearance. I wait to be checked nervously and then one of the security staff rudely gestures me to the other line for men. I then kindly tell them that I am non-binary whilst highlighting the pronouns on my earrings which clearly say ‘They/Them’. They carried on refusing me access, repeatedly saying this side was for ‘women only’. I shamefully walk to the other side. The two distinctly separate box-like detectors for each queue added to the prison-like atmosphere. I felt invalidated and embarrassed. As a place that hangs the pride flag on every wall, invites non-binary performers every week to perform, calls themselves a QUEER VENUE. This is anything BUT a queer venue. What really upset me most was guest @theebillyporter , who is such an inspiration to me, introducing himself and celebrating every gender identity when they were on stage. @JeremyJoseph this type of treatment at your establishment NEEDS TO CHANGE. And until this backwards, dangerous rhetoric is reversed, HEAVEN IS NOT AND WILL NEVER BE a queer venue. I’m appalled.

Tbf I used to wear my friends '18' pendant at the tender age of 14 to get into the local club . Jewellery as ID has been around for DECADES!!

If going in the men's queue...why isn't going in the women's queue an offence against validation of the non binary claimed status? Just a small detail overlooked by the would-be satirist / victim.

Other matters aside, I've seen pronoun earrings and wristbands on some sites. I know that the children of family friends wear them. I have absolutely no chance of reading them without asking someone to place that body part (ear, wrist) at the appropriate distance. Even a badge wouldn't always work, depending on the glasses that I'm wearing.

And that's in good lighting…

Why does everyone need validating these days? It is for everything.

OMG! I just accidentally saw an erect penis on Twitter while reading that thread. I had a look at some bloke’s profile and he described himself as a Sex Worker and was calling everyone Terfs. Are you allowed to post pictures of your genitals on Twitter?! What is wrong with people??!!!!

Surely non-binary means you are not male or female, or both (or something), so why join either queue?
Wouldn't the solution be a queue for the 'I am the most special and interesting person here, everybody look at me me MEEEE! ' kind of people?

Yes

They are supposed to be behind a warning where you click through to the content. However most is not. You can report it, if twitter bothers to do anything, but the perp will simply post more without the requirement because it is about as many eyes as possible. No matter the age of those eyes.

Me too - I think that just means he's made it private for his followers? Presumably the whole tragedy was not being taken entirely seriously by the twittosphere ...

I suppose we're making some small progress. In a dreadful week for women (especially the magnificent Kathleen Stock) we have the Guardian being picketed and now HEAVEN IS NOT AND WILL NEVER BE a queer venue.

After recovering from the unexpected genital incident, i saw someone had posted that “obviously” they/them would join the women’s queue as a safety issue is it would have been unsafe for them to stand in a queue of (gay I’m assuming) men and be checked by a male bouncer 😵‍💫
