Interviewee is describing what femicide is, and the interviewer said, ' so its about gender'
And the interviewee replied, ' its about sex, sex and gender are different and its important that we recognise this as a crime based on sex, this is about misogyny.'

Well, she put it much better than that, but how refreshing to have this simple reality expressed so clearly and unapologetically.

And she is still talking about sex now and sex stereotypes. That woman is brilliant. I love her! I must look up her name!

Yes, I cheered at that, too. The interviewee was the wonderful Karen Ingala Smith.

(A pity that Anita Rani introduced her as 'Karen Ignala Smith Hmm)

WinterTrees · 08/10/2021 11:06

Karen Ingala Smith would be one of the disgusting transphobes Anita Rani called out after her fawning interview with Paris Lees.

If Karen had been on the other side of the debate she would probably have been too super-scared to talk to Anita, as Jane Fae was of Jenni Murray. (Luckily, working in the field of femicide, Karen understands the real meaning of fear and wouldn't use the word so offensively lightly.)

Anita is right that we listening to stories helps to ditch the hate. We need more stories of women who have been badly effected by the end of sex segregated spaces. We know these women are out there but unfortunately, all the hate from Anita's side makes many too fearful to speak out openly, especially as their experiences are often around sexual violence and aggression and past trauma.

Thanks OP will definitely have a listen. And the threats against Kathleen Stock got a mention at the end of the Today programme as well. Looks like R4 has seen sense

Bbc leaving stonewall....

Things turning....

MildredsMoustache · 08/10/2021 12:39

Good, clear points from Karen. What's going on with Woman's Hour these days?! I feel such a sense of relief just to hear women speaking freely like that.

WarriorN · 08/10/2021 12:40

Karen is getting so much in to this interview. Well done Karen! 👏

Bbc leaving stonewall....?

If you're going to have a bbc programme for women, the bbc being state funded and supposedly impartial, you simply can't ignore this stuff. Any of it. As women have repeatedly pointed out.

I also think EB is quietly on this.

(Not sure she's quietly now!)

Did Anita misgender Kit Malthouse (41:55)?

Did Anita misgender Kit Malthouse (41:55)?

Yes, makes we wonder if Rani has any idea who he is. I can't stand her, and after her totally inappropriate Paris Lees tweets, she should have been disciplined by the BBC - to be consistent with what they did to Jenni Murray.

Karen Ingala- Smith (ffs, Rani, Ignala??) was brilliant, however.

Yes, really poor from Rani.

As a journalist surely she should be able to get Malthouse's sex and Ingala-Smith's pronunciation correct.
