Are the BBC about to leave Stonewall?

According to ex-BBC staffer Ben Hunte, yes:

[quote PandorasMailbox]Talcum X seems a tad rattled too

We're living through an "anti-trans horror show" now. It must be exhausting being LOJ, it really must.

yourhairiswinterfire · 07/10/2021 16:15

Oh, ''anti-trans'' is it?

Is the Stonewall diversity programme not for the 'benefit' of LGB people too then? Just trans people?

I thought that was ''phobic'' or an ''ism'' or something?

Shedbuilder · 07/10/2021 16:20

It's all about the trans. This lesbian is doing a little happy dance.

Perhaps this is behind Emma Barnett's sudden about-face on Woman's Hour.

WomaninBoots · 07/10/2021 16:26

"Anti-trans horror show"

Grin

Dear god. Is that bitch, Reality, spoiling the fun again?

Artichokeleaves · 07/10/2021 16:31

Anti-trans horror show?

'Pro - woman horror show' is what that in fact means. Women having a voice, having needs that don't involve centering males, women not surrendering rights, is a 'horror show' incompatible with trans wishes.

Unashamed misogyny.

KarentheBarbarian · 07/10/2021 16:32

And now I want a Tshirt saying "Reality is a Terf"...

KittenKong · 07/10/2021 16:33

Does this mean they are going to stop showing drag shows? (It’s BBC isn’t it?)

RoyalCorgi · 07/10/2021 16:33

One of the remarkable things about all of this is the realisation that OJ actually believes this stuff. He's not just jumping on a bandwagon, he really truly and sincerely believes that trans are the most marginalised group, and they are being oppressed by us wicked feminists. He genuinely thinks he is on the right side of history.

I can't imagine what is going on inside his tiny little brain.

Someone under LOJ’s post has commented on events at Sussex Uni, failing to recognise that Kathleen is a lesbian and should surely be protected too. Prof Stock is the wrong kind of LGBT+ person, clearly.

Artichokeleaves · 07/10/2021 16:39

Unfortunately, and I keep coming back to this, once you're talking to someone who believes that reality is a subjective thing selected from the facts you like on one matter, and that anyone not enabling you to do this is bad, there's not really much point in expecting them to set aside their alternative facts on any other matter.

The thing is, we can't have a world where some people make up reality and demand that everyone else obeys and believes them unconditionally. And it is important to remember that mental health is strongly to do with the ability to cope with reality as it is.

lazylinguist · 07/10/2021 16:39

How disingenuous of these drama llamas to pretend that the only two choices are either continuing to line Stonewall's voluminous pockets or suddenly deciding to be raging bigots, and to claim they're worried that by ditching Stonewall the BBC is about to embrace a new policy of homophobia and anti-transness! Utter bollocks.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 07/10/2021 16:39

I find it hard to get my head round people believing trans are the most marginalised group - but ok, if you have no experience with poverty or disability you might possibly come to that conclusion.

What I really can’t get though is how anyone can believe that now is an extra dark period for trans people with lots more transphobia than there used to be. It’s not like trans people were widely accepted a few years ago and nobody was ever rude or mocking about them. Historically it just makes no sense whatsoever.

NutellaEllaElla · 07/10/2021 16:40

They really need to get a hefty dose of perspective on this. It's not Nigeria.

People have started to say "no" even more loudly and firmly.

It's a tantrum. Hyperbolic histrionic fit at the thought of not getting everything they want even though they can't tell you what it actually is that they want....

"No" = super scary anti-trans horror show.

Artichokeleaves · 07/10/2021 16:53

"No" = super scary anti-trans horror show.

You really get the feeling that there are people in this movement who have been so sheltered that they have no idea what any of these words actually mean.

In the next few months, with many people in the UK starting to look at major challenges with being able to turn the heating on and afford to live, and experiencing real, immediate, actual problems, patience is going to get a lot shorter.

catzwhiskas · 07/10/2021 17:01

Agree with you Shedbuilder ...also applies to some of the presenters on Today , who are questioning the politicians very carefully these days.

ArabellaScott · 07/10/2021 17:10

But listen closely. Not for very much longer.

Doyoumind · 07/10/2021 17:12

Is it possible for a TRA or trans ally to speak/write without the use of extreme hyperbole?

It's clear that if the BBC is taking other measures to remain impartial that this move is the right one. You can't get unimpartial training from a lobby group.

Needmoresleep · 07/10/2021 17:14

Prof Stock is the wrong kind of LGBT+ person, clearly.

Perhaps because she is female. Some men really do not like women.

AnyOldPrion · 07/10/2021 17:33

in return, Stonewall helps the organisations create more inclusive working environments for LGBTQ employees, such as giving advice on inclusive toilets and changing room facilities.

Pretty sure the LGBQ employees would not find those things particularly important. Lobby for T, ignore the rest, but keep them in your acronym to show you’re inclusive. Guess that’s where the LGB Alliance went wrong. Their acronym is too honest.

“I've worked for the BBC for over 20 years, and I've never known a worse time to be LGBT+ at the BBC,” they said. “There is deeply engrained institutional transphobia at the heart of the BBC,”

How odd. What were the figures again? Wasn’t it shown a couple of years ago that people claiming to be trans made up 2% of all employees, 4% of management? Higher than the estimated number of trans people in the wider population certainly. It’s a real head scratcher why so many of them want to work somewhere where they’re so persecuted.

Another BBC employee who was involved in the BBC’s Pride network, said: “The BBC needs to focus on the bigger picture, rather than fiddling around the edges on things that the audience won’t care about.”

Actually, when they find out what’s happening, the public care deeply about this, which is why the wheels are starting to fall off.

“LGBT rights are already enshrined in law, so aligning with an LGBT charity shouldn’t really affect impartiality.”

LG rights are indeed enshrined in law. In the name of transactivism however, Stonewall are lobbying for men to be able to change their legal sex to female by the minimally significant act of signing a declaration. It’s hard to say that lobbying to remove women’s rights is particularly impartial.

No wonder these people super-scared. They’re bumbling about in supreme ignorance about the entire topic. Stonewall appear to have done little more than to spread disinformation and fear amongst its followers. Perhaps if Stonewall is removed from the equation, some kind of reality can be restored and all these terrified people can learn to relax.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 07/10/2021 17:33

LGBTQ staff at the UK’s public service broadcaster have told VICE World News they are “horrified” and “super scared” by the planned withdrawal, which could come as soon as next week.

This level of contempt for their colleagues says a lot about: the individuals and their sense of entitlement to authoritarian structures to impose their will upon others; the lack of regard for an impartial broadcaster.

SW has been promoting division and discord to the point of actively advocating against safeguarding for women and children at the same time as undermining the understanding of LGB and sex attraction.

thirdfiddle · 07/10/2021 17:41

My head can't read "super scared" from someone over the age of 5 without giving it sarcastic tone. Maybe he interviewed an LGB Alliance supporter and failed to spot they were taking the mickey.

Mollyollydolly · 07/10/2021 18:24

Well this lesbian, ex-employee, sometimes now freelance, couldn't be more delighted. Does that mean I can go in work without hiding my 'adult humale female' pin badge. About bloody time. Lobby groups have no place in organisations whose reputation rests on their impartiality. Fran Unsworth is right.
