Helen is being interviewed about her book, Trans, at the Children&WomenFirst event at the Conservative Party Conference.

Something to watch before Posie at 7pm Smile

Fantastic, just came to post!

It's a GC road to midnight (almost!)

CreepingDeath · 03/10/2021 18:05

Thanks for that - I'll be watching.

Have just spent the last few days bingeing on Helen's various youtube interviews - she's fantastic. So articulate and reasoned. And somehow brings something different to each interview.

Melroses · 03/10/2021 18:08

Yes, so much to see.

I like watching Helen too - great at inteviews.

Oh thanks for the link! I was sitting on twitter not able to find it.

What a line up of strong sensible women there is there.

Melroses · 03/10/2021 18:29

Helen and Julia today, then quite a line up for Tuesday 8am (coffee and pastries)

I haven't been to a tory conference, but I think she is good and seems to be doing a really good job of pitching it.

Thanks... listening now.

Signalbox · 03/10/2021 19:25

This is a great talk. Questions are very interesting aren't they?

Melroses · 03/10/2021 19:34

Miriam is good too - MP, genetics graduate and science teacher.

Really impressed with this meeting. Speaking as a politically homeless ex-Labour voter.

Melroses · 03/10/2021 19:36

I missed some of it (fitting dinner in) but it is a hell of a lot better than kicking window - I feel so sorry for the women trying to make themselves heard at the Labour conference two years ago.

Wine and nibbles is the way forward Grin

Now to catch up with Posie.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 03/10/2021 21:17

Fuck me. I'm going to have to vote tory.

It is the only way.

Melroses · 03/10/2021 21:58

Steady on 🤣

Helen Joyce blew the bloody doors off this evening, loudly and clearly calling out the major organisations that completely failed women. Awesome.

Masdintle · 03/10/2021 22:10

Is there somewhere to can listen? Late to the party again

endofagain · 03/10/2021 23:00

Is the link on twitter the only one? The sound quality is terrible. If there is a better recording anyone can link to I would be very grateful.
Back when I used to try and listen to some of the earlier Women's Place meetings/recordings I had to give up because the sound was so bad. Such a pity when the content is so important.

The only link is on twitter.

It was quite hard to hear Angela Richardson at the beginning, but it got better. Miriam Case at the end was clear. I had to have the sound up high.

I feel more optimistic than I have in a long time after listening to that discussion.

Thumpsquids · 04/10/2021 08:19

There's a good interview on the Coleman Hughes podcast also, if you can't get enough HJ.

Jaysmith71 · 04/10/2021 09:53

I remain more open to voting Cannibal than Tory.

But if Count Binface or a similarly behatted person wants to stand in my constituency, I may be willing to help save their deposit.

oldwomanwhoruns · 04/10/2021 15:36

Brilliant interview, yup shame about the sound. I do hope that there were some MPs in the audience??

I made some notes -

It is a disgrace that women have been left to do this. We have a whole industry who are paid to do 'Equality' and they have ALL failed us.

WE have a whole State apparatus which is meant to be upholding the Equality Act.

A false analogy in comparing this to segregation in the USA, and at a quick listen this is not obviously wrong. It has been sold as the next big Civil Rights push. BUT civil rights can't be based on a LIE. ... Women cannot play a full part in society unless we have women only spaces. Women with religious beliefs will be pushed back into the home.
Men already have rights. They can't have women's, too.

About 4% of prisoners are female.
Men are being put into women's prisons in the name of inclusion.

Stonewall have redefined man & woman to be gender identities not sexes. But men & women are defined in the Equality act.

This is going to be a major medical scandal.

They are brainwashing children in schools.

Once Stonewall pivoted towards Trans, they refused to have a conversation & to stand up for lesbians.
51 girls in Scotland have been approved for (trans) surgery. This is a scandal.

This is not just another battle in the culture wars.
It is an enormous issue for women's safety.
If we erase the concept of women, we erase women's rights.
When we have elected officials saying nonsense, women are in real danger.
Far from being hoarders of rights, women have had to fight very hard for their rights.

The D of E have not given clear guidance to schools.

Melroses · 04/10/2021 23:00

Thank you.

Yes it is a disgrace that ordinary women are left to do the work of the professionals with £10 donations funding court cases.

All to maintain what we thought was there.

I've gone to watch. Who's currently speaking* about transwomen in women's prisons?

  • very well, I'll add, when someone lays it all out like that it's shocking
nauticant · 05/10/2021 08:45

Nic Williams up now. Much better sound than Sunday.
