Really good article. It's shocking how uninformed and incurious so many therapists are about this subject. They're happy to prescribe hormones and surgery after three 45 minute sessions and won't look into other possible causes for the dysphoria.

Interesting as well that getting the daughter away from the US helped a lot.

It doesn't help that bodies such as the BPS advise the affirmative model.

Not that that is relevant in this case given the BPS are UK based.

I hate all this. My friend has agreed to her ds who wants to become a dd to having blockers, but far too speedily for my liking.

It is obvious that the girls I know who say they want to be male don’t actually want to be male, they just aren’t ready to be grown up women.

In some ways anorexia was easier to treat for those girls who hated their bodies and the growing up, so they stunted it by starving themselves.
You can’t really reverse testosterone or having their tits chopped off.

It’s incredibly sad and very scary.

Wait times are only years if you go through the NHS. There are plenty of private quacks.

Yes, take a look at the number of youngsters raising money to pay privately to 'delete the teets' on the mainstream crowdfunding sites.

Or indeed 'helpful' articles like the Guardian's one on 'Hannah' the Roblox gamer back in April this year, raising money through gaming and now, age 20 but dressed like a little girl, looking forward to penis removal.

Not only are there plenty of private clinics happy to provide a service, but almost every single affirmative trans advocate specifically mention their names in their SM posts i.e. in YouTube vids and in Insta posts etc. They also talk about how they went about privately funding. Plus, not sure how Insta’s algorithm works, but these posts crop up much much more frequently than any other posts.

Maybe CatherinaJTV would be interested in this article from the Telegraph. I am surprised considering how long Catherina has been visiting these boards that they will have missed GenderGP and their activities.

If the current version of the self-styled anti-conversion guidelines is passed, such parenting would be impossible in the UK. There is no nuance presented that would support establishing where there are multimorbid emotional, environmental or mental health contributions to young people presenting for gender identity assessment.

I know people affected by treatment or interventions that were aimed at changing their sexual orientation: wholly abhorrent. I do not see gender identity in the same way: I would want a full psychological assessment of anyone before they progressed to irreversible changes. Shared-decision making is not just for some parts of healthcare.

It isn't compulsory to use the National Health Service, and private healthcare isn't banned.

We do, in fact, live in a capitalistic society in little old England, in which people in an array of occupations can directly exchange services for money, without a state intermediary. Such occupations include plumbers, maths tutors, and also surgeons, doctors, pharmacists, and psychologists.
