LGB Alliance welcome to Tory conference, but you wouldn't know it from the reporting.

It looks like the LGB alliance have been awarded a stand/stall at the Tory party conference. The Tories appear to be putting their money where their mouth is in wanting to embrace diversity of opinion and plurality of viewpoints. As such there are also other stalls representing LGBT organisations.

So why does the ITV reporting look somewhat biased to me?

I'm sure LGB alliance could do with some support, in the light of that woeful reporting.

I currently have no T.

Will get DH to put the kettle on in case Matt Lucas declares me transphobic.

ninetynineAu · 30/09/2021 21:10

"No LGB without the T", sounds like a threat to me. Particularly in context of TRAs treatment of lesbians and gay men, and the attempts to hijack or wreck anything we've [L&G] fought for and built for ourselves over the past 70yrs or so.

Is your broadband BT?

My Broadband says its Virgin, but I'm not sure I believe it.

My Broadband says its Virgin, but I'm not sure I believe it.

It could identify as bt?

Can't help but be reminded of the Russian military who included a political officer to ensure control of the military and 'educate' the troops on communist ideology.

No LGB without the political officer.

[quote Datun]Now Carrie Johnson is the guest of honour for LGBT Conservatives. Is this Boris nailing his colours to the mast? Will she also be speaking to LGB alliance at the Tory conference?

He is, although Carrie probably hasn't told him yet Wink

PickAChew · 30/09/2021 22:49

Oh no. We're going to get more most oppressed bollocks, next week, aren't we. Mostly because Carrie told him so, of course. At least it would hammer home that I really can't hold my nose and vote for them.

The chair of the lgbtconservatives , is receiving death threats , but has put a statement out saying they are working behind the scenes to get shot of the lgba and they don't agree with their inclusion .
I have actually went thru the mirror, they want to remove the ones not sending threats whilsts telling the ones sending death threats they need protected , absolutely mental 🙃

I'll never understand how they don't connect the dots! Or why they don't grasp that everyone else is connecting the dots.

Who the bloody hell wants people who resort to intimidation and death threats anywhere near them? Much less vulnerable women in spaces where they're naked, ffs.

Threatening people, doxxing them, contacting their employers has worked up until now. But there are far more eyes on the issue now than there have been to date.

Its insane , people under the post are actually saying death threats are bad BUT you need to put a statement out , renouncing the lgba and if you dnt it shows your transphobic , it is genuinely like reading a hostage statement

Christ, it has all the hallmarks of an abusive relationship. We'd all be singing LTB and recommending Lundy Bancroft if they posted on the Relationship Board.

Jaysmith71 · 01/10/2021 10:08

I suspect Boris "Bum Boys" Johnson may want to get back in some people's good books.

IsitM · 01/10/2021 10:28

I do hope Elena is reporting these threats to the police, and I would pretty much bet my house on them not coming from women or men on our side.

Rather ironic that Elena called Conservatives For Women, a group of party members fighting for women's rights, 'digusting terfs'.

This is what such abusive, violent, and dehumanising language leads to Elena, it always escalates. We don't take any pleasure in you being on the receiving end of threats because we want ALL women to be safe, even the ones who disagree with us.

titchy · 01/10/2021 10:28

Maybe Extinction Rebellion should take a leaf out of the TRA playbook. After all if all it takes is a few death threats to get a single issue suddenly kow-towed to, they could whiz climate change right to the top of the Tory agenda.

BaronMunchausen · 01/10/2021 10:32

"No LGB without the T": has this ever been explained? The connection between identity and sexual orientation?

Or is it another inviolable mantra?

Whatiswrongwithmyknee · 01/10/2021 10:40

"In my view - a view many other cisgender women share - there is no LGB without the T.

I actually think that is probably true. But as 90% plus of women don't identify with the word cis, it's also kind of irrelevant.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 01/10/2021 11:15

Or is it another inviolable mantra?

A good phrase that jumped out at me from this piece:

“Trans women are women” is a mantra; it’s not a basis for policy

The Times is reporting on Carrie Johnson's intervention:

archive.fo/7xFSO

The LGBT+ Conservatives event is being held in partnership with Stonewall, a charity that has been at the centre of a controversy over its scheme for “diversity champions” in government. Liz Truss, the women and equalities minister, has urged government departments to withdraw from it over concerns about its value for money.

This is going to be very interesting, particularly because these days any public figure who intervenes in this way knows that either they have to speak in the most vague and unclear terms possible or to make T a prominent part of the speech. To speak about LGB while not focusing on the T invites significant damage to progressive credentials.

Can someone please explain to me how homosexual people can be cisgender?

Cis means you happily comply with the sex stereotypes and sex role stereotypes associated with your own sex. Being attracted to the opposite sex is one such stereotype. But this isn't just anyone stereotype. This is a big one. So big in fact that "heteronormativity" is a concept that most if not all homosexual people are familiar with.

Homosexual people are by definition same-sex attracted. This means they do not comply with one of the most important stereotypes about their own sex.

So how do they square that circle?
