I saw that there are now two transwomen in the Bundestag (previously one), both Greens.
The Green Party and the Free Democrats (liberals) are both in favour of making it much easier to identify as the opposite sex. In the last parliament the SPD voted against the change because its then coalition partner, the CDU, was opposed. It said at the time that it largely favoured the Green/FDP proposals although "not fully". ( thegermanyeye.com/self-determination-law-for-trans-people-failed-4179 )
I'm curious whether Olaf Scholz has ever been asked to define a woman, or whether only women have cervixes - or has the debate not reached that stage yet in Germany - anyone know?

It's not really a topic that gets much publicity over here at the moment but as the Greens have done very well in this election I do expect it to come up again soon.

A (principled) Green local politician actually demonstrated how ridiculous self-ID is by identifying (by just saying so) as a woman recently ahead of a vote by his local party. (Here's a link (in German): www.emma.de/artikel/ich-bin-eine-frau-338871?fbclid=IwAR0oFktqlOmEed9E_nag7OaSWvedOEuu4pJ-vsCVdxNTMtdpm0xW5CLz8uU).)

Oh, and he's been sacked by the German member of parliament he worked for.

Thanks ShonkyCat.

I got to vote in that election and it was really hard this time, I've never felt so politically homeless and unrepresented before.

What David Allison did has my respect, he tried to show the party how foolish they are and lost his job in response. But none of the anti-women claqueurs would call him "stunning and brave", quite the opposite probably.

Following with interest. Merkel's departure makes me very uneasy.

BlackForestCake · 27/09/2021 17:29

One at least of these blokes took a list place reserved for women.

I assume there's no chance the AFD get anywhere near the coalition? They're probably the only hope I'd have thought.

Both the CDU and the SPD said they’d be open who they would form a coalition with, but at the same time made it abundantly clear that this would most certainly not include the AfD.

Of course the greens (centre left) and FDP (liberals) are in favour of more trans rights. It’s baked into their ideology. The same is true of nearly all centre left and liberal parties in almost all western countries, because despite small differences it’s baked into the same ideological principles that all these parties were founded on.

The AfD are basically German UKIP.

BlackForestCake · 28/09/2021 00:06

It isn‘t baked in to their ideology. Liberal ideology has existed for 200 years, and green ideology for 50 years, without resorting to sex denialism. It’s not inherent to either.
