Hate crime at Stirling Uni

Information on women's rights have been left in the toilets at Stirling Uni. A report has been made to police about hate crimes.

This was my Uni, I almost wish to be a student again so I could help with the distribution. If any Stirling Uni students are reading, dm me. I'd love to help.

Oh, for heaven's sake. Whoever thinks this is a hate crime needs to grow up.

nauticant · 25/09/2021 11:32

Why shouldn't the Forstater decision apply in Scotland when the Equality Act 2010 applies in Scotland?

The decision should be binding on other Employment Tribunal cases and I can't see why this shouldn't apply in Scotland.

SpindleWorld · 25/09/2021 11:47

I originally thought Forstater did apply UK-wide, nauticant, but got told No.

Some of those tweets 😆

"Nice try pumpkin"

SpindleWorld that is so disappointing. TBH I didn't think it would and with this new hate crime bill there is going to need to be a test case isn't there. Some poor sod is going to have to fight the good fight.

I would help fund that fight. Perhaps we should start gardening now.

I'll have a quick google.

They don't say here that it doesn't apply in Scotland.

nauticant · 25/09/2021 12:57

I had a look earlier and found this:

www.heraldscotland.com/news/19362788.maya-forstater-wins-landmark-employment-case-gender-critical-beliefs/

Employment law is a reserved issue and applies UK-wide.

However, it's simply a newspaper article by a Political Editor.

www.gov.scot/publications/scottish-governments-equality-duties/

Equality Act seems to apply in Scotland.

Interesting that the part of Scotland Act 1998 quoted here doesn't mention gender.

SpindleWorld · 25/09/2021 13:35

I actually can't find anything definitive that says Forstater doesn't apply to Scotland.

So how will the SNP square this circle with its 'hate crime' overreach??

nauticant · 25/09/2021 13:43

Maybe in Scotland courts will be able to find differently on "worthy of respect in a democratic society" because "democratic" will end up meaning something different there.

Employment Law is a reserved issue. The Nats were furious at Unionist opposition to make it devolved.

There are some minor differences but like company law it's almost entirely derived from Westminster statutes which apply to the UK

@thinkingaboutLangCleg

From the Twitter comments: Women’s rights appear to be a hate crime in McGilead these days.

McGilead. Perfect! I’ll never see Nicola Sturgeon again without thinking of Aunt Lydia.

McGilead.

Sure to be adopted.

It just sums-up Scotland right now to a tee.

McGilead · 25/09/2021 18:46

The name has been in my arsenal for quite some time now.

I’m waiting for the country to reach peakSturgeon. What is happening in our country is a bastard disgrace.

It can’t be long now.
