checks and balances

With the grc, what are the checks and balances? What is being checked and balanced against?
Read a bbc article that says "the government responded to the consultation, saying it believes the gender recognition act strikes the right balance between legal checks and support for people who want to change their legal gender" what are the legal checks?
What exactly is being balanced?

The reduced burden of application is easily Googled.

Pretty sure there are links on that break it down thread about this. There are some good past threads too.

There is nothing about it anywhere.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean OP. The rules of the GRA have been discussed hundreds of times, what is your issue?

I think it's the BBC which is misinterpreting what the government has said, if that is a direct quote in the OP. Liz Truss's statement didn't mention 'legal checks', what she said was this:

It is the Government’s view that the balance struck in this legislation is correct, in that there are proper checks and balances in the system and also support for people who want to change their legal sex.

The checks and balances are to do with the medical requirement for a diagnosis of gender dysphoria. This is to stop people like the Wi Spa flasher from being able to self-identify as a woman, as he has been allowed to do in California.

Surely you wouldn't want male sex offenders like that to be able to be legally recognised as women which would make it easier for them to expose themselves to little girls in sports changing rooms, as well as going to a women's prison if they are convicted of an offence, would you?

Has anyone else noticed the influx of "please educate me, I'm so naive" posts this week that are clearly meant to be traps to gather screenshots for Twitter?

OP if you are indeed genuine then this information is freely available on Google, and the very informative break it down thread.
