Popular London bakeries, used them myself.

https://konditor.co.uk/shop-products/shop-by-products/pride.html?f24pid=6382c95d-02f2-400e-87ee-12cd5ed03ca0&utmmcampaign=September%20Pride%20(1)&utmsource=force24&utmmmedium=email&utm_content=textlink

Anyone know more about this charity org please? Is he just a figurehead?

Never heard of them to be honest. This type of thing is such a big turn off for me. Pride cookies, pride clothes, pride greeting cards... what? And £15 for 4 brownies...

I can’t see what the charity is though. Has a quick sees her but didn’t see what it could be.

The Pink Pound!

ArcheryAnnie · 11/09/2021 07:31

Konditor and Cook can't have done much due diligence in choosing Tatchell, of all people, to throw money at.

Needmoresleep · 11/09/2021 07:36

It’s sad.

Years ago, when I needed to get out of the house, I used to push the buggy to Konditor and Cook and treat myself to an (expensive) small cake.

Another name to add to an increasingly long list. Not a boycott as such, but a list woke signalling firms who are chasing a customer profile that is not me. Like the BBC, M&S, Ocado and more.

It’s fine. Plenty of others, including small independent shops value middle aged women, newly affluent now the kids have left home. The savings can be diverted to causes I feel strongly about.

That said, I hope St John Bakery does not go the same way. Their Eccles cakes are the best in town, and their doughnuts….

Jaysmith71 · 11/09/2021 07:43

....Children! ......Brownies!

KittenKong · 11/09/2021 07:47

I just unsubscribe, unfollow, delete and move on.

These people (most of them) where nowhere when the LGB community really could have done with public support and fundraising. Where were they when people couldn’t marry (and all the financial issues that arise from being same sexual partner), section 28 was being protested, when people had no protection under the law, when police wouldn’t bother their backsides if there was an attack on person/gay bar... ?

Now it’s slap a rainbow, add 10% and sell sell sell.

And of course it’s only certain aspects of ‘the community’ (🙄) they support and laud.

Give me strength!

WarriorN · 11/09/2021 08:00

Dreamies cat food biscuits now have a rainbow lgbt version.

It'll be vegan next.

KittenKong · 11/09/2021 08:02

And... Pringles? Didn’t I see that too. Oreos. Teletubbies... (actually that probably wasn’t ‘licences’)...

Fun fact - when I was at art school I did a project - I was ‘known’ for having a weird sense of humour in my work (I was encouraged!). Vegan catfood was included...

This this this!!

I’m pig sick of organisation draping themselves in the rainbow now that it’s mainstream & every corporate has jumped on the Pride bandwagon

As you say where were they during section 28 or the AIDS crisis or when Boris Johnson described gay men as “tank topped bum boys”

And if a new cause célebre comes along, they’ll drop the Rainbow without a second thought

MondayYogurt · 11/09/2021 08:04

I have no issue with Pride promotions.
Tatchell's PIE links are a red flag and I would not want any money going towards his aims.

KittenKong · 11/09/2021 08:06

My sister used to be happy to see it (rainbow) and was chuffed when her company bought in pride lanyards (never did red ribbons though eh? And when was the last time you saw one of those). Many years of homophobia...

Even she is 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 at straight white girl ‘qu**r’ tourists and the pure aggression and cuckooing of pride.

Deliriumoftheendless · 11/09/2021 09:14

15 quid for 4 brownies! 😮

I’ll stick to Cooplands.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 11/09/2021 09:30

Yes, people who are active in the LGBT scene can be expected to know Tatchell’s history, so if they are deliberately publicising their support for him, to me that is a very large red flag. It makes me so sad - as a long term LGBT ally I used to really support his controversial actions and activities as I understood the desperation to get equal rights for LGBT people. Now I know he’s just a paedophile apologist and cannot look at him in the same light. And all those homophobic people from my 70s childhood, who viewed gay men as possible kiddy fiddlers (their words not mine) might argue that they were right. So much of this activism is pushing LGBT rights backwards and reducing support for them, and that makes me so saddened.

KittenKong · 11/09/2021 09:37

LGB, I’m retro...

ChickenonaMug · 11/09/2021 10:39

It is the Peter Tatchell Foundation that the money is going towards. Tatchell seems to be very involved in the foundation, so yes OP he is more than a just a figurehead for it.

Tatchell, via the PTF, promotes his proposals for what mandatory RSE/sex education for school children should be like. Some of the proposals are awful.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/09/2021 10:46

It's been a long time since I used to have to do a Friday cake run before work for the office but they did used to be really nice, and definitely high end. But I take the point, that's it a bit like the Harry Enfield "I saw you coming" shop.

KimikosNightmare · 11/09/2021 15:51

Wasn't June Pride Month?

KittenKong · 11/09/2021 15:54

Month? It’s all year round now.

MondayYogurt · 11/09/2021 18:12

thanks @ChickenonaMug - as I suspected.
A shame, but there are plenty of other bakeries I can support.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 12/09/2021 05:31

Their cakes are ridiculously over priced and over sugared.

I used to work near one and all the office cakes were bought from there. Unfortunately.

Sophoclesthefox · 12/09/2021 08:09

I’ve avoided them since they had a massive picture in their window of a woman looking overjoyed with white goo spattered all over her face

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3635350-Konditor-joy-through-cake-advert

Presumably it was meant to be her really getting a lot out of her cake eating experience, by dint of looking like the cake came on her.

Bleurgh! No, thank you.

KittenKong · 12/09/2021 08:38

I’m getting rainbow fatigue... just stop!
