Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

If changing sex was actually possible..

...would men really want to change sex? As in actually become a woman with all the hormones, periods, childbirth, breastfeeding, sexual harassment, sexual assault, discrimination, lower pay, smear tests, contraception worries, menopause and issues etc? I know that not all women give birth or breastfeed but for the purpose of this hypothetical question the men would be able to experience these things
If sex changes were possible, free, and allowed men to have a "fully female life" (possibly a stereotypical female life of marriage, dc, run the home) or maybe all that and work full time like many women do), would any men want that? If these sex changes were fully reversible would men choose to stay as women or would they change back?

In the interest of fairness would women want to become actual men? It seems to be girls that want to be boys rather than women who want to be men and that's interesting in itself. Girls want to identify out of their oppression whereas men want to identify into...well I'm not sure because I'm not a man.

In this scenario I’d have a go at being an actual man. I mean why not?

Ifyoudontlikeitdosomethingelse · 09/09/2021 13:59

I'd be interested to know what it feels like to actually be a man. Take my DH for an example. What's it like to be 6"3 with an athletic body and eat what he wants without any weight gain. What's it like to have a penis?!
fun to think about!

But in reality, no. No I don't think men would prefer to have all of those things.

could be fun to be a man. i'm done with childbearing and I could do with a pay rise.

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 09/09/2021 17:46

No they would not.

jellyfrizz · 09/09/2021 17:59

I think lots of men would probably like to have a go at growing and birthing a baby. The idea of bringing forth life is a powerful thing. The reality however.... I imagine they'd switch back fairly quickly after.

Aquamarine1029 · 09/09/2021 18:00

Of course men wouldn't want to be a real woman. The very idea is laughable.

AnyOldPrion · 09/09/2021 18:14

You only have to listen to the likes of Kaveney telling an entire roomful of women about the lovely, soft, silkiness of a trans penis to get some idea of how important a topic the trans penis is.

I think the fact that most men who claim they are women don’t choose to undergo castration and penectomy is significant. I’m aware, of course, that the surgery involved is problematic, but given that most men who claim they are women no longer have gender dysphoria, I’d suspect that, like most other men, they’re rather psychologically attached to their manbits.

The functions of women’s anatomy might well seem thrilling to those who know they can never really experience them, but my suspicion is that trying to simulate them, while still euphorically attached to their male members would probably be preferable.

After the novelty of feeling themselves up for a few days, they'd be asking for the antidote.

Sacreblue · 09/09/2021 18:30

I doubt it, from the outside it looks more like wanting to holiday versus moving abroad.

All the fun bits, sun, sea, sex, outside ‘ohhs & ahhs’ from other people interested in your journey, without the lived experience of mundane responsibilities like researching the country/area, learning the language, paying for & upkeeping a home, dealing with admin - and of course blending in.

Tourists generally don’t want to be one of the people, they prefer noting differences - sometimes celebrating them, sometimes thinking ‘we do that better at home’, enjoying the novelty of change.

The reality of fully moving is not anywhere near as fun and carefree.

TheWeeDonkey · 09/09/2021 18:37

The world would grind to a halt, they'd all be at home playing with their tits

FightingtheFoo · 09/09/2021 18:39

No because the current set up is definition of male privilege - they get to have the fun bits with only a fraction of the hard work. See also Disney Dads etc.

ISpyCobraKai · 09/09/2021 18:40

No of course they wouldn't.
Women, possibly, but only for the advantages that men have, which tells you all you need to know really.

Vanishun · 09/09/2021 18:44

Actually yes, I actually think some would, and some would enjoy it long term - the type of person who TRAs call "truescum".

Most, though, wouldn't just want a sex change - they'd also want an age and beauty and life change. They'd probably be surprised that it didn't fix the issues they had, and would unconsciously rely on the option of changing back again if things got tough.

Branleuse · 09/09/2021 18:50

im pretty sure some of them would. Probably the ones that have longterm gender dysphoria now

zafferana · 09/09/2021 18:57

Of course they wouldn't! All the shit women have to put up with I wouldn't choose it either. In my next life I'm definitely going to be a man.

ISpyCobraKai · 09/09/2021 19:07

I'm going to be one of my cats, they are so spoiled.
I'm not sure how it works but its as possible as men becoming women.

NiceGerbil · 09/09/2021 19:41

That's that joke isn't there that if men had boobs they'd never get anything done.

NiceGerbil · 09/09/2021 19:42

As per PP.

I'd give it a go obv.

In reality suddenly waking up in a totally different body of any type would take ages to get used to even if you didn't immediately lose the plot.

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 09/09/2021 19:43

I'd like a penis for a day
Just to pee standing and swing it around. Not permanently though. I don't like the thought of having to sort it out in my trousers

Bawdrip · 09/09/2021 19:53

Let's face it, they just want tits and stockings and access to the ladies loos. None of the other faff and nonsense.
