Bit of non-news but anyway in case you ever meet him and need to make small talk...

Gavin Williamson mis-sexed his spider. It turns out to be the longer lived female of the species.

Wait, no sorry, he apparently misgendered Cronos and "they are transitioning".

It's a typically Gavin-esque interview especially the bit where he says his own windowsill picture of the Queen isn't flattering.

The spider isn’t doing anything. It’s just being a spider. I’m sure it is thinking (if they have a thought process akin to humans) ‘why is this idiot 4-limbs calling me ‘Dave’? I’m gonna wait until he is asleep and crawl up his nose and see how he likes that...’

Someone quite well known, has conflated sex, gender reassignment (transitioning) and gender - all very different - in one sentence. Quite an impressive feat!

Especially when the confusion around conflation is what is affecting women everywhere.

He’s conflating gender and sex, even when it comes to a spider which probably couldn’t give less of a shit about what Gav calls it Grin. The conflation of gender and sex is a feminist issue.

Given some of the egregious lack of understanding of a number of our elected representatives it has to be an open question whether the Secretary for Education actually believes this to be true. It is, all too sadly, not implausible.

Hang on, this makes no sense.

Gavin made an assumption about the spider's sex. When it turned out that was a mistake, he forced a gender and transition on the spider. Gavin can't deal with being emotionally attached to a spider of one sex.

Gavin is homophobic but aracho-attracted and the flag for that is plain red.

I suspected as much.

Not publicly but it was leaked. The point was not so much that single suggestion, perhaps not serious, but it was part of a wider push by him against state-of-the-art weaponry in favour of cheap & cheerful alternatives, which might work if you are China with over two million troops who can do human wave attacks, but not if you're the UK with an army of less than 100,000.

We need Gavin to make more statements like this. I can think of few better ways to convince youngsters that bandying about the terms 'gender' and 'transitioning', and the use of 'they' as a singular pronoun for an individual are actually deeply uncool.
