It's sad that people have had such rigidly gendered upbringings that they feel the need to construct a false reality where they inhabit the opposite stereotypes. Looking back at pictures of me as a child in the 70s and 80s, the clothes me and my siblings/friends wore were in no way as gendered as the examples on that website. Ditto for hairstyles.

I don't know how a family agrees on overwriting their shared memories and history and in whose interest?

This is an open issue for family members of people who share their DNA. In some countries its been used by law enforcement to trace crime suspects (by familial association) and there's the risk of flagging conditions to health insurers for familial conditions when individuals have no control over that information being shared.

I wonder what the overlap is here.

Yet more evidence that it's all about appearance. The rejection of the idea that a boy can have long hair etc.

So would it not be better to unpick sexist attitudes and try to address internalised sexism rather than indulge it?
