Name changed so I don't accidentally out myself.
My workplace is pretty woke. I was in a meeting today with some very sensible, smart and worldly-wise women. It became clear at one point that they would wholeheartedly agree with the proposal to ask about sex on a survey, and gender if you wish - but with a free text answer box, as a non-mandatory question, and definitely not in place of sex. We went on to discuss a couple of related issues without fear of being accused of bigotry. It was a ridiculously lovely relief. Freeing!
But how bonkers is that? It's these instances that bring home the weirdness of the self-censorship a lot of us feel we have to practice.
That's all I wanted to say really. It made my day.
