Another child failed by GMP

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9959579/Girl-12-went-police-report-sexual-assault-officers-sent-away-abusers.html

I just cannot believe what I have read there. A police desk clerk told a twelve year old to accept a lift from two strange men. How many times are kids taught "don't get into cars with strangers", only for a member of police staff to instruct a child to do exactly that?

Multiple rapes later and GMP manage to lose crucial pieces of evidence.

Other agencies don't escape blame either. A Sexual Health Worker (the article doesn't specify who employed them) wrote:

'She is now on her third sexual partner. She has made an informed choice to remain SA [sexually active]. She has a mature attitude and looks older than her age.'

12 year olds cannot make an informed choice. She was being groomed by adults. And what the hell does whether someone "looks older than their age" have anything to do with it?

Dreadful. I hope things have changed for the better since it happened, 15 years ago.

Artichokeleaves · 05/09/2021 18:03

It's not unusual for children in foster care to be sent off alone to contact meetings in cars with total strangers as it all depends on which member of staff in social services is available to do the driving. This can result in some very frightened, very distressed small children, but is not regarded as a problem. Current practice.

Madness.

By "total strangers", do you mean social workers who are unknown to the kid, or (as in this case) two randoms who happened to be in reception at the time?

Yeah, all those “lessons learned” and yet the same old shit happens again and again.

I know that this is something that happened 15 years ago, but I have zero confidence that it wouldn’t happen now.

Artichokeleaves · 05/09/2021 19:27

Social workers unknown to the child, at least not the randoms the poor child experienced in this case.

RoyalCorgi · 05/09/2021 19:48

This is one of the most shocking things I have ever read. God knows I have read some terrible things about the way victims are treated by the authorities but this beggars belief.

littlbrowndog · 05/09/2021 20:49

12 years old. Informed child. On her 3 rd sexual “partner”

Omg a child

NiceGerbil · 06/09/2021 03:18

I can't read it all

I feel sick

A 12 yo girl goes to a police station to report a sexual assault.

The officer tells her to get in a car with 2 random men who are there because of a suspected driving offence.

I can't take much more of this.

No one gives a fuck do they. Every day over and over in the news.

That's so. Upsetting isn't the right word.

Fuck them quite frankly. The police handed her to a bunch of rapists. A12yo girl.

RocketPanda · 06/09/2021 07:01

I will forever believe that the police knew exactly what they were doing to these girls and and were part and parcel of the grooming and exploitation. They thought they'd get away with it because they were poor.
As for the tosh about this girl being mature. 12 year olds are not even close to mature.

NiceGerbil · 06/09/2021 08:33

I've woken up still incredibly upset and angry about this.

The responses from the police to the initial sexual assault (not a crime get in the car with these two men you don't know and fuck off) to the report of hours of rape by multiple men and through to their response now are so utterly cruel and awful.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/09/2021 08:39

And what the hell does whether someone "looks older than their age" have anything to do with it?

Plausible deniability for the men raping her?

TheQueef · 06/09/2021 08:40

It almost leads me to think the police were deliberately ridding themselves of any complainants as the default organisational response.

It was 15 years ago.

It's still happening now. Today.
I can't say it for certain with GMP but i can categorically tell you SYP still do fuck all.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/09/2021 08:41

Sex with a 12 year old is automatically rape. It doesn't surprise me but these people should be rooted out and sacked for enabling children to be raped.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/09/2021 08:43

They surely have a duty of care to children.

EishetChayil · 06/09/2021 08:44

Women and girls are truly at the bottom of the pile. Poor/working class women and girls at the very bottom.

I despair.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 06/09/2021 08:56

When those police officers reflect on every big scandal of the past, do they think, "I definitely have nothing to learn from those"? If asked to reflect on their actions in this case would they argue that they'd do the same again?

DdraigGoch · 06/09/2021 09:43

Because of course passing a girl (even if you claim to believe that she's 16+) between several middle aged men is such normal behaviour. Hmm

One might expect the disgusting scumbags or their lawyers to come out with this tripe to try and get them off, but a government official who is supposed to be helping her? What a sick world we live in.

This idea that a child can make an informed decision to be sexually active is pure post modernism and it’s bastard child queer theory

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 06/09/2021 10:01

A professional writing that is so enraging

I agree, I was at the last Standing for Women meet a week ago and Kelly Jay Keen was making an important point about the terminology changing around childhood, that the term 'Children' is being substituted for 'young people' all over the place, she was really talking about Gillick competence but I think it applies here too.

Young people used to mean children of 16/ 17, legally still children but old enough to have sex/ learn to drive/ drop out of college. Now people are applying the term to actual children, it dilutes to concept of grooming and manipulation of children to allow adults to harm them, if we give them this credit for being mature when it suites the abusers and the negligent to make the child responsible for their own abuse.
