It's in The Times. With this and Wi Spa I feel like the house of cards is falling...

This judgement has made me so happy. Vindicated at last. I hope this opens the door to much more scrutiny

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 04/09/2021 18:43

@Igmum

Great news. I hope this leads to substantial changes in GIDS. Well done Sonia
To be scrupulously nuanced:

Appleby’s employment tribunal did not make findings on the rights and wrongs of the treatment, but looked at how others behaved towards her after she blew the whistle about issues of concern.

There is a strong signal that GIDS would be wise to reflect upon its practices but there is no finding about the grounds for the treatment.

Brilliant news. Can't believe how many of these cases are going 5rough the courts. I have so much respect for all the women (and Harry the Owl) that have not taken this crap lying down and out themselves through the stress and financial burden of pursuing these cases for the benefit of us all.

Dreamprincess · 04/09/2021 18:46

Thank you Sonia. I have young grandchildren and your courage and fortitude hopefully mean they will grow up in a world where the falsehood that one can "change sex" is debunked,

OvaHere · 04/09/2021 18:53

Fantastic news. Very pleased for Sonia. It was a difficult tribunal to follow as a non legal person so I really didn't know what to expect as an outcome.

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 04/09/2021 19:09

Great news but £20,000 doesn't seem nearly enough. She's endured so much.

Leafstamp · 04/09/2021 19:10

This is good news but agree £20k doesn’t seem a lot. Although hopefully Sonia will be able to secure new roles.

LolaLouLou · 04/09/2021 19:13

Brilliant news. I agree with the previous poster that it was difficult to follow the proceedings themselves.

I wonder if the trust will appeal.

nauticant · 04/09/2021 19:13

That's an interim part of the proceedings from 17 September 2020 MaudTheInvincible. It looks like we're still waiting on the final decision.

JustcameoutGC · 04/09/2021 19:14

She was so professional at the hearings. I am so pleased for her, it took real courage to take it all the way to tribunal.

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 04/09/2021 19:14

So pleased for Sonia Appleby

Passmeamenuatthetottenham · 04/09/2021 19:16

It doesn't really matter that this is not a judgement on the rights and wrongs of the treatment itself.

The case exposes the totalitarian nature of gender ideology and how it is undermining the most fundamental of safeguarding practices. That a safeguarding whistle blower was treated badly because she dared to raise concerns about the practices of the Tavistock shows how deeply ingrained the dogma is.

This case pulls back the curtain another inch.

PronounssheRa · 04/09/2021 19:20

So pleased for Sonia it must have been so difficult for her

MrsOvertonsWindow · 04/09/2021 19:22

Fantastic news and yet another example of how the safeguarding of children takes second place to the demands of lobby groups - shame on the lot of them.
I'm so pleased that Sonia's integrity has been openly upheld like this.

ValancyRedfern · 04/09/2021 19:26

Amazing news.

MonsignorMirth · 04/09/2021 19:26

Oh my gosh
It's there in black and white. The Tavi “prevented her from proper work on safeguarding”.

MonsignorMirth · 04/09/2021 19:26

prevented her from proper work on safeguarding

NinjaExodus · 04/09/2021 19:36

I have whistleblown in a job that I stayed in and it was absolutely fucking horrendous as all of senior management piled in and colluded to punish me and smear me and that was in a tiny charity nothing like the public institution that has attacked Sonia.

I have so, so much respect to her for seeing this through, for her courage and integrity and tenacity. I am also very pleased to have donated to her crowdfunder and will continue to donate to others.

PronounssheRa · 04/09/2021 19:36

A panel consisting of employment judge Sarah Goodman and two lay members concluded that the trust’s handling of the matter damaged Appleby’s “professional reputation” and “prevented her from proper work on safeguarding”.

This is shameful an NHS Trust prevented proper safeguarding

Mummyoflittledragon · 04/09/2021 19:41

This is excellent news for Sonia. I hope this is the start of shining the light on this crap. Will other countries take note? With us wanting our ‘sovereignty back’, I fear this will be ignored as Little Britain.

Yes.

Yet again it is a woman of colour who has been picked on, yet again it is a woman of colour whose employment and livelihood was threatened, yet again it is a woman of colour who has been vilified and lied about by the mob and their professional reputation smeared and dragged through the mud, yet again it is a woman of colour who refused to back down, showed their integrity and stood up and fought at great personal cost to themselves. There is a lot of heavy lifting being put on these brave women, I am in awe and salute their immense courage.

SnoopyLights · 04/09/2021 19:49

This is great news and I am very happy for her.

She has not deserved the way she was treated and I am glad this has been acknowledged.

OwBist · 04/09/2021 19:57

Just caught up in The Times. Excellent news, and good comments, too.

Whatwouldscullydo · 04/09/2021 20:03

I wonder if now it's been ruled that she was unable to fulfil her job re safgaurdung as a result of her treatment after she became a whistle-blower, they will finally adnit there are safguarding concerns.

Or her inability to fulfil that part of the job would be irrelevant as there would be no safguarding issues .

You cabt simultaneously have no safeguarding issues whilst it being recognised you cant fulfil your safguarding duties.

Safeguarding is enshrined in legislation it's not going to disappear.
