NC for this.
Has anyone heard about the baga chipz drag show performances at Manchester Pride this weekend? Baga Chipz was on Ru Paul drag race if anyone has not heard of them.
Performance at the Eagle which was male only allowed, women being turned away just on appearance not asked how they identify or anything and a lot of misogynistic comments.

Bagga Chips also did a performance at Vanilla a lesbian bar where all genders and identities were welcome.

Anyone feel like we have lost all our spaces now. Pride or anything else will never be our space or a safe space again. I feel really upset by it.

It's just not fair, is it.

NiceGerbil · 31/08/2021 02:24

Got any links?

Sorry to ask but I like to see for myself iyswim.

Wouldn't be surprised but Google not giving any pics or anything.

AnyOldPrion · 31/08/2021 06:57

Some discussion about in on Twitter (with a link to TikTok which seems to be the source of the allegation).

I saw this elsewhere on Twitter. I wonder whether they let in any transwomen....

puppygalore · 31/08/2021 08:15

I often go out around Canal St with my male, gay friends and it's been always well known the Eagle is for men only. So we don't go in (I'm female) because we wouldn't presume I had a right to enter. Until reading this I had stupidly assumed Vanilla would be the same but for women, so because I'm always with male friends we've have never gone in. They wouldn't presume they'd be allowed to access that space. Just before the first lockdown I started seeing 'no terfs' stuff popping up. I've only been out a few times there since lockdown lifted and already I'm so fed up of seeing the 'Terf' stickers and shit everywhere and not being allowed to want female only spaces. It's so draining to see just how much these places and people hate women and hate us having rights and wanting to claim space. For many years I've always felt totally accepted in the village but not any more.

I'm with pp on this, would be nice to see a source and a discussion on twitter and a link to tiktok not exactly credible

TabbyStar · 31/08/2021 08:54

I thought I'd seen it somewhere else but I searched Twitter and couldn't see it. I found this though. Grim for female students at Lincoln - those names Hmm

Funny how people always know which half of the population to not include isn't it...

KittenKong · 31/08/2021 08:59

And it seems like tv celebs are queuing up to attend - that woman of morning tv, someone else. I was only half listening to the radio and a few straight (I think) women were mentioned as ‘attending Pride’.

Is being a Trans Icon/ally (because I done think there are just ‘gay icons’ anymore - but they were usually for the men anyway weren’t they, Kylie etc) the ‘new thing’?

KittenKong · 31/08/2021 09:00

Oh and I saw a tour bus the other day - now rebadged a ‘Pride Bus’ (although it was just the usual tourists in there) - all rainbows and not a single woman on the visuals.

maddy68 · 31/08/2021 09:36

Vanilla can be a bit sniffy at times about allowing men in

CallMeRisley · 31/08/2021 10:12

I started a thread about this yesterday after seeing it on tiktok:

catzwhiskas · 31/08/2021 11:21

I really wouldn’t want to attend any such event that is for men...I do care that this misogynistic entertainment exists. As long as we retain spaces for women only( are there any left ?) i don’t care that men want to have their own, much as I hate the specifics.

TabbyStar · 31/08/2021 12:38

I have no issue with spaces for men, I do wonder though whether trans women count as men as they are more likely to like drag than trans men I would have thought.

NiceGerbil · 31/08/2021 14:29

They would let anyone they thought to be male in.

They're for gay men. Homosexuals.

There has been way less erosion of their places than the other way around.

Gay venues have always been pretty strict on door IME although years ago.

Women love gay clubs because they don't get pestered.
Certain men want to get into lesbian places because... Oh look same reason!

ArabellaScott · 31/08/2021 14:35

'male only'. Says anyone who identifies as a man is welcome:

1. Eagle membership is restricted to people who share a protected characteristic of gender. Therefore anyone who identifies as male would qualify for membership.

(They are misquoting the EA, it's sex, not gender, that is protected. But anyway.)

You have to upload a photo to apply for membership.

'Please upload a clear image of yourself to support your application for membership.'

NiceGerbil · 31/08/2021 14:59

Gender isn't a protected characteristic is it?

ArabellaScott · 31/08/2021 21:52

No. 'Sex', 'gender reassignment' and 'sexual orientation' are protected.
