Activist 'sacked after raising concerns about transwomen in refuges'

Also in the Times. I'm disgusted. It's such cynical game-playing from Khan, all to appease a tiny minority of TRAs. There's no way he actually believes this stuff.

I'm going to write to him. Joan Smith is a feminist rock star.

@countrypunk

The Guardian have absolutely nothing to say about it so far, even though they printed a piece by Joan a few days ago about the links between terrorism and violence against women. What a fucking surprise.
The guardian is a comic for angry teen activists, plus those lacking in decency and common sense, these days.
Beowulfa · 19/08/2021 10:44

Heartily glad I voted for Count Binface and not this posturing lightweight.

Enough4me · 19/08/2021 10:44

It's in The Times and a few posts into the comments and there's a man saying TW in female spaces isn't an issue and anyway there are easier ways to access women, no man would pretend to be a woman to do this. I kid you not.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 19/08/2021 10:45

Mind, I saw something yesterday on Twitter in which various individuals were challenging Edinburgh Uni. about having senior academics involved with/supporting For Women: Scotland.

Until there's a critical mass of coverage by MSM, these measures will continue because they're successful.

He hasn't gone any ulterior motives has he, oh no, nothing to see here...

@Purpletomato

Appalling. It's like Labour actually wants to lose women's votes.
Any women still voting Labour ? I have a few friends who are massively pro Labour and seem to just ignore the whole DESTRUCTION OF WOMENS RIGHTS thing, and I am baffled by them.

Although voting for candidates like bin face instead of credible opposition does allow these men such as Khan a better chance of getting in. Although binface may have done a better job of it had he ever stood a chance.

Interesting reply from Rhona Hotchkiss:

I was the subject of multiple complaints to The Ethical Standards Commissioner because apparently my ‘transphobic’ views should not be tolerated in a member of a public board. The complaints were all dismissed. DM me if you want more info

Also the author of something that might also be deeply relevant: Grown: How Domestic Violence Turns Men Into Terrorists
Yes, such is my rage, I forgot about that!. Thank you.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 19/08/2021 10:57

A male has sacked a female from a board dealing with violence against women and girls, because that female expressed concerns about males being allowed into female only refuges?

This ^

Men have spoken. And because a woman spoke, out she goes.

Pathetic.

I knew you knew - and in my annoyance, I omitted Home from the title - but it was more spelling out for myself the full breadth of Smith's relevant knowledge and history.

Why on earth. When I think of the truly egregious errors that some figures make and yet they remain in post with scarcely a blemish beyond 'boys will be boys' to their gossip biography - yet a knowledgeable woman with contemporary expertise is treated like this.

The reputational slaughter of women continues.

Abhannmor · 19/08/2021 11:06

Is Joan Smith ' semi detached' at the Guardian - has a certain party got a petition in mind? Sue their asses Joan...I will defo chip in to any crowd funder.

Jorrris · 19/08/2021 11:06

Yes. We will fight back.

Mollyollydolly · 19/08/2021 11:31

It wasn't a paid role so don't know if that affects Joans position re taking legal action. God these people discuss me. Joan is an amazing woman. My disgust at Labour knows no bounds.

InvisibleDragon · 19/08/2021 11:33

It will be interesting to see how this plays out at The Guardian. It won't look good of they cancel their renowned expert on male violence and terrorism for wrongspeak about safeguarding.

I believe you would still be protected from discrimination even in a voluntary role.

He is full rainbow. You only have to look at his twitter feed... full on...

I take it back it appears you can!

Yes I saw that gem earlier - such a complete refusal to see the problem. Men are going to rape anyway blah blah...people are going to steal anyway, so why bother locking your doors Hmm.

They don't get it because they don't have to get it, or I'm starting to realise they just don't want to get it, because to acknowledge the problem would be a slight inconvenience to them.

Much better to denounce crazy women making a fuss over nothing. Arsehole!

DoubleShotEspresso · 19/08/2021 11:51

I just despair at the unquestionable power this idiotic, self-serving male is permitted to continue wielding.
Who the hell voted for him again? I'm furious

And this after the week we've just had, with the loss of women's rights and the threat posed by male violence so much in the headlines! It makes me worry (as a former Labour Party member) that if Labour in its current form got in power we'd go the way of Scotland.

So appointed by Johnson and sacked by Khan. The world has gone tospy turvy!

Beowulfa · 19/08/2021 12:24

Sadly there wasn't really anything that could be described as credible opposition. Greens and LDs tying themselves in gender-woo knots; Tory candidate bonkers.

Binface technically did better than the UKIP candidate I think.
