The BBC are looking for book groups to be filmed for some thing involving Damian Barr.

Just sharing in case any feminist/ women's book groups were planning to read anything interesting this autumn and might like to be involved?

I thought DB had been outed as transphobic for making offensive transphobic remarks about a trans person and an attempted suicide?

Yes, indeed. But for some reason, Damian got a free pass for this. Can't imagine why.

And, of course, Barr is famous for having Baron Nicholson booted off the Booker.

Words fail me at his hypocrisy - and his open transphobia and cruelty about suicide. Yet the BBC give him a free pass?

Hard to imagine any self-respecting feminist book group wanting anything to do with him really.

aliasundercover · 18/08/2021 10:06

Oh I do hope somebody here is part of feminist book group. I'm sure Damian would be thrilled to hear what they have to say to him.

ScreamingMeMe · 18/08/2021 10:26

This is the second gig the BBC has given this non-entity. What gives here?

ArabellaScott · 18/08/2021 10:28

If I was in a book group, I would be considering some recent releases:

Mumsnet FWR used to have a book/reading board.

Oh, I don't know. I'm sure there are feminist book groups who would love to share their thoughts on Helen Joyce's Trans or Kathleen Stock's Material Girls. Damian might even learn something.

Ah but of course - it’s BBC Scotland. And we know how Scotland feels about feminism.

We could start a book club, just for this opportunity.
