Can't read it - can anyone send a link? Seems to be someone in the industry wanting to make it easier and more common for women to rent out their wombs.

It's always worth looking on one of the archive sites to see if someone has done one:

Go on the Stop Surrogacy Now website, they outline the proposed changes to surrogacy laws in the UK, including lowering the minimum age to 18, taking away the stipulation that the surrogate has to have given birth before and removing the surrogates legal rights at the time of birth.
That's not wide open to grooming and exploitation at all.

Well when there's a buck to be made from exploiting women's bodies, there's always someone ready to take up the opportunity.

Stop surrogacy now are also on twitter.

And this is the firm she is CEO of and trying to promote. Yuk yuk. Really irritated that the only free bit (ie first couple of paragraphs) suggests the changes would improve rights for surrogates and baby buyers, which is clearly bollocks.
Would it be sexist to point out she's a "Karen"? Literally!

Its written with a total and UTTER lack of awareness or acknowledgement that there are issues here re women's rights.

Apparently other countries do it so much better because you can pay for surrogacy so that means there is a greater pool of wombs for hire.

I think that surrogacy is not necessarily straightforward and there are nuances. However, this does not even pretend that it is anything other than a commercial project in which women's bodies are just factory machines. Awful article.

The Independent is not a fan of women. How totally surprising from a paper that considers itself to be liberal.

Oh, that article has made me quite cross. It's all about the demands of the commissioning parent(s), couched as supposed "rights", and nothing at all about protecting women from being exploited or babies being created for sale to whoever can pay.

Karen Holden is CEO of A City Law Firm

No ulterior motives here at all.

I particularly like how the article says we should learn from other countries, then it only mentions Canada and the US (not all states).

I actually think we should follow Holden's advice.

Let's learn from Quebec and Michigan.
