GC Feminist Demographic: DARVO at its Finest

Nice little follow-up here with a contrary view to the suggestion that G.C. feminists are predominantly white, middle-class females. According to this little gem, posted via Twitter in response to #NoThankYou, any deviation from the Gender Ideologists' Law is ... a masculine supremacist movement. Hmm Amongst the claims it makes, are this beaut. The author claims that the GC movement enables men to declare open season on a whole new free to abuse segment of the female community [and] now do it with the full blessing of the very feminists who had opposed them for so many years.

Hilarious. And then it gets even better. Transmen, she says, are off the hook because:

'Transmen just means more men. So that’s all fine to the GC males. Transwoman though, hell these misogynists don’t want more bloody women to deal with'.

Given GC feminists don't generally buy into the claim of The True Faith that TWAW or TMAM, this appears skewed logic even by TRA standards.

This [puff] piece is presented as a piece of pseudo-scholarly research with pretty graphs and the citing of YouGov statistics, which as the Census debacle showed us earlier this year hardly represent what might be called incontrovertible evidence. Indeed, it's hard to see how this could be the case when defining what 'gender' and 'feeling like a woman' actually means has eluded all definition so far.

So there you have it. Opposition to the whole shebang from the redefinition of the word 'woman', the imposition of the label 'cis', the appropriation of our medical issues and reproductive experience to the colonisation of our protected spaces and rape crisis centres is the work of male rights activists.

That's a new one in projection. I had to reread it several times and still can't quite figure out whether this is intended as satire. If it isn't, someone really has gone well and truly through the looking glass.

Read it and weep:

I got as far as:

Now to be entirely fair, there are some idiots on the trans ally side who post unpleasant things. There will always be the odd idiot on both sides of any argument, especially on Twitter which is a hot bed for those who type before they think. But that isn’t the part I want to focus on.

Thought, of course you don't and then thought, fuck it, I really can't be arsed with more of this crap.

PandorasMailbox · 09/08/2021 13:40

Now come on @FOJN, I'm sure insomniacs will be incredibly grateful for this coma-inducing piece of 'literature'.

Swings and roundabouts and all that.

Ah yes, those pesky little 'unpleasant things' like rape threats and death threats. Let's just gloss over those because they detract from my point Hmm.
Artichokeleaves · 09/08/2021 13:53

Getting really silly now.

PandorasMailbox · 09/08/2021 13:53

Tsk Death and rape threats are just boomer hyperbole.

Let's move on grandma Hmm

Ha, yes! It got a bit more commentary than that on Twitter, but not very much.

Not too long ago this stuff would have been taken entirely seriously; seems nowadays people either ignore it, yawn and tap their teeth, or get pissed off halfway through and give up reading it.

I see that as definite progress.

Speaking of DARVO, I thought this was an interesting example:
twitter.com/AbigailShrier/status/1417287673711005730/photo/1

Expressing concern about the increasing number of young girls medically transitioning = white supremacism

This seemed like a new low

Needmoresleep · 09/08/2021 14:13

Aren't white middle class women entitled to a voice, equal to that of anyone else.

Indeed should they not be expected to speak up from women less articulate, or more vulnerable, than themselves on issues of common concern.

Sorry don't get it. First a good number of sheros are not white, but second it should not matter. If I want to speak out about the threat to single sex spaces, which I believe disproportionately affects the vulnerable (prisons, rape crisis centres) the ill (hospital wards) etc, why should I be silenced because I am white and female. Surely that is racist and sexist, especially given accusers are probably white males.

Maybe "they" are afraid of us, and want to isolate our sisters.

Artichokeleaves · 09/08/2021 14:27

I've seen conversations like this where people have lined up the pictures and statements: Julie Bindel, Allison Bailey, Keira Bell, Maya Forstater....

It makes little difference to those who insistently repeat it's all white women (who therefore don't matter...?) however it's quite useful to repeatedly demonstrate how the words and the reality aren't matching up.

TheWeeDonkey · 09/08/2021 14:28

That makes no sense to me.

Seems like the writer grew up in a quiverful family so it looks like projection to me and a complete twisting of reality.

terryleather · 09/08/2021 14:39

Yet another one high on their own farts...

KohlaParasanda · 09/08/2021 15:27

WTAF did I just read? That's certainly a unique perspective.

That's precisely it.

Claim it's all 'white middle-class women' - you can almost hear the 'Karen' insult hanging in unspoken in the air - as though that's good reason for discrediting the actually soundly-reasoned arguments being put forward. Anything to distract attention from that, it seems. (Quite frankly if it IS sometimes men making these claims - allies like the good Graham Lineham for one - I couldn't care less, as long as someone is actively fighting the issue of women's protected spaces being invaded by men [with or without penises]).

So it's white women doing it, therefore that's good enough reason to discredit our voices (even though as others have pointed out, Maya, Allison, Keira and others achieving landmark legal victories in this arena, are frequently not white).

Failing that, it's men. Because this is a way GC voices can be discredited too, by suggesting they're coming from a place of misogyny. No fucking irony there!

No matter either that these positions are in direct contradiction, as long as they're diverting attention from the real issue. Surely anyone paying attention can see how batshit this is, unless they are wilfully blinding themselves.
