About 5.20? I think it is someone called Alison who is commenting on the olympics. Talked about horse eventing and then asked about weightlifting. Straight away said IOC need to do some research about "men who want to enter as women" , said it had been just talk of human rights without looking at impact on female sport, that Rugby did actual scientific study and found trans women to be 30%still stronger... that even the current weighlifter is 13 years older than women would be able to compete.

Just brilliant! Radio 4 person did wafdly noncommital move onto next thing but I was so impressed!

Radio 5 Live about 11 ish??

SCMocha · 02/08/2021 18:55

shame that he couldn't write that in the Guardian as well!

NautaOcts · 02/08/2021 19:04

Thai is great news and I really really hope the bbc don’t back track on it or apologise or anything

RoyalCorgi · 02/08/2021 19:10

Actually, Sean Ingle has done some really good pieces for the Guardian on this issue. I think Kath Viner probably doesn't read the sports section so he gets away with it.

Wbeezer · 02/08/2021 19:24

I heard it too, was amazed, specially the "man entering as a woman" bit!

BettyFilous · 02/08/2021 19:24

I noticed Caroline Quinn ended the interview along the lines of “I look forwards to hearing more from you about the Games again tomorrow evening” and I laughed because the commentator is probably banned from R4 for wrongthink. DH said she knew what she was doing, that she was nervous but once she got started she warmed to her theme. It was not the response Carline Quinn was expecting, that’s for sure. Grin Evan Davies should have a night off more often.

Nice piece from Sean Ingle here about Emily Campbell:

Ooh that was really cheering, and fantastic about Emily Campbell! That’s an amazing result, huge congratulations to her.

SCMocha · 02/08/2021 20:01

oh that's cheering then. I don't read the sports section much either (actually don't read the Guardian at all these days, so they could in fact have changed and I wouldn't know). Glad there are some signs of sense there.

picklemewalnuts · 02/08/2021 20:08

[quote nauticant]Obviously this happened on a day when it wasn't Evan Davis presenting, today is Carolyn Quinn, and if you listened carefully she seemed to be avoiding calling Hubbard a "woman" or "she". The sports reporter was Alyson Rudd from The Times who commented about how the IOC rules were done without much regard to actual science.

Men are already angry about this on twitter:

They aren't getting much support, to be fair!
