@JoantheVampireSlayer
Would anybody mind messaging me the complaint they made to the BBC regarding FF so that I can complain too?
I'm livid but I'm really not well at the moment so can't write a complaint myself.
Thanks so much.
I made 2 complaints. Here's my complaint about the fuller report:
I initially thought that this was going to be a balanced report as it included an interview with Dr Nicola Williams from Fair Play for Women. However, the presenter then went straight to the next interviewer and asked, "What do you make of that, it sounds pretty dehumanising."
That was an unacceptable show of bias and a complete misrepresentation of Nicola Williams who had been very respectful eg by not using male pronouns when referring to Laurel Hubbard and by saying that she thought that it was great for trans and non-binary athletes to compete in the Olympics (provided they were in the correct category for their sex).
I felt that the 2nd interviewee, who clearly didn't know any details about the scientific research which the IOC says justifies the inclusion of transwomen in women's sports, was not challenged at all. The 2nd interviewee based their arguments on feelings rather than facts, which they are entitled to do, but it is the job of an impartial presenter to make it clear to the viewer that this is what is happening and also to challenge statements which are not backed up with any evidence.
I complained about bias for that one.
Here's my complaint about FF:
I was absolutely shocked to see the BBC showing an interview with Fallon Fox, the former MMA fighter, on the news this morning. This is a person who has tweeted: "For the record, I knocked two out. One woman's skull was fractured, the other not. And just so you know, I enjoyed it. See, I love smacking up TERFs in the cage who talk transphobic nonsense. It's bliss!"
Fox gave Tamikka Brents a concussion and a skull fracture which required several staples. These injuries were inflicted in the first round, in just two minutes.
Tamikka said of the fight: I’ve fought a lot of women and have never felt the strength that I felt in a fight as I did that night. I can’t answer whether it’s because she was born a man or not because I’m not a doctor. I can only say, I’ve never felt so overpowered ever in my life and I am an abnormally strong female in my own right. Her grip was different, I could usually move around in the clinch against other females but couldn’t move at all in Fox’s clinch.
I am horrified that the BBC thinks that it is appropriate to uncritically broadcast the views of such a violent misogynist.
I think that I complained about that on the basis of offence but I'm not 100% sure.
