Every so often, the trans issue is raised on AIBU and the thread contains a poll. Then the thread gets moved over here to the naughty corner, the poll disappears and we never get to see the statistics for what the wider Mumsnet population thinks about the issue. We can then be told by TRAs that our views are very much the minority without being able to contradict them.

So I thought that I would record the results of this AIBU poll (specifically on the subject of Laurel Hubbard) for posterity. Just in case it gets moved.

If any of you are unable to see the attachment, 1,978 Mumsnet users voted, with 98% taking the view that a male should not be competing against women.

Great poll results. And kudos to MNHQ for letting it stand.

Where are the staunch transallies though? Nobody up for explaining to us why we’re all wrong/ignorant/bigoted? Surely poor old Hubbard needs the solidarity, but I’m not seeing it.

Can’t think why.

clickychicky · 01/08/2021 20:51

The poll helped me to think I must be missing something that these people aren't so prompted me to look into it more.

Once you see it you cannot unsee it.

This chart helps.

The essential thing is that the requirement for genital surgery was removed in 2015. As selection for the Olympics doesn't happen overnight, Tokyo 2020 (being held now!) was literally the first Olympics at which we had a chance to see if the relaxation in criteria did affect who was selected for the women's squads.

Yes this was all stuff I didn't know until today. Now I can't really unknow it!

Welcome to the club, clicky.

WTAF

"People believe what they believe when they are shown something that may be new and different to what they know. It's instinctive to be defensive,"

I think women know biological men's sense of entitlement VERY well.

DdraigGoch · 01/08/2021 23:14

@Chickenyhead

Pretty consistent rate then.

Hopefully if this issue is highlighted, the prison situation can be next.

Do you know if an appeal is intended in the prisons decision?

The prison decision basically said that the MoJ's policy was legal. So the next step is to take civil action where the MoJ has failed to safeguard individuals.

hope that link works. Article just popped up on my FB. Ladsbible re Hubbard. I'm encouraged by the £10k plus comments which for the dozens i scrolled through were all saying this is totally unfair. Biological differences, advantages of growing up male. Also reference to other scenarios inc boxing - Fallon breaking woman boxers skull. Quite a few NZ people saying they were ashamed of their country's choice.

Found it encouraging.

I really appreciate the link ChattyLion, I was struggling to find the thread. It has 2319 votes now and continues at 98%

Thank you to those who gave the explanation of the numbers, it was really helpful.

And thanks for the thread OP, I rarely look at AIBU so would have missed it.

ChattyLion · 02/08/2021 20:28

No worries Daisies and I really appreciated that stats explanation too. Its a relief to see that so many people haven’t lost the plot and that they do want women’s sports to survive.
