Grant Karte sentenced for threatening Joanna Cherry with sexual violence

I can't claim to be very familiar with Scottish politics, but Joanna Cherry is an internationally admired and appreciated defender of women's rights, and got threatened with sexual violence for it like so many others. While it's heartening to see justice served for once, it's depressing to think how few in the SNP, or how few in general will speak to condemn this horrible man's horrible actions. So many would much rather be tearing down other prominent women for saying women's rights are human rights.

I think people on this thread are being very mean about Ofpeter. She’s quite busy helping Commander Murrell work out what to do about all the missing donation money you know. Obviously she had the time to tell us all her pronouns in that special video but she hasn’t the time to condemn rape and death threats against the wrong sort of SNP member. Under his eye / under his aye.

I recently re-read the Strange Death of Liberal England. The Liberal Party won a landslide election victory in 1906 but was destroyed by 2 issues which split the party - Irish home rule and Women's Rights. Will the SNP's epitaph be TWAW rather than RIP? Everything is impossible....until it happens.

@littlbrowndog

From that piece

In 2020 Sturgeon attacked the misogyny of “keyboard warriors”, highlighting the case of Rhiannon Spear, the Glasgow councillor standing as a Holyrood candidate in the following year’s election. She had tweeted: “Disagreement is what democracy is all about — vile, toxic abuse is not. And on the subject of calling it out even when it’s on my own ‘side’, disagree with @RhiannonV as much as you like, but leave out the misogynistic abuse.”

Oh I see. It's only vile, misogynistic abuse if you have the right opinions.

I also see the new SNP complaints officer is a man who’s called JC transphobic.

🤯

OTOH it was probably hard for them to find a candidate for the job that hadn't....
It seems like only the TWAW chanting crew get the nod in the SNP & the cross over with misogynistic bastards seems significant

Interesting to see the appointment of the SNP Complaints Officer and his interactions with Cherry.

Looking at Ricky Taylor's own twitter feed I see he is one of those pathetic, loathsome "any one but England" separatists. His comments during the Euros are hateful.

Why is Cherry sticking around? She hasn't a hope of being re- selected. She could resign from the SNP and sit out her tenure as an independent.

The moderation of comments on The Times article is really quite something. All comments are subject to checking.

Off topic, I can’t believe people don’t find that telling your pronouns thing incredibly patronising.

Why stop there?

Boris Johnson could demonstrate his support for diversity by saying ‘My pronouns are he/him, I’m white and I went to Eton and Oxford.’

I think she might want to force the SNP to show its hand to her. As she's shown, people trip up eventually and she's got the law on her side when they do.

If the SNP force her out, I think she wants to make them do it publicly.

If this is the case, she deserves that much more admiration. It would be so much easier to just let them get away with it.
