Maternity Hospitals and Nuns - Ireland

It seems the state is planning to gift the new National Maternity Hospital in Dublin to nuns, which means it will be potentially very limited by Catholic interests in what it can and can't provide.

I'm a bit tired but I read it as the nuns gifting/ selling the site to the State?

Has someone been watching too much Call the Midwife?

I really can't understand the gifting part, it sounds more like offloading.

I am not sure I fully understand it, Abhannmor. It seems that feminists and politicians are calling for the nuns to gift or sell the hospital to the state, but the Insta post suggests that it's not what is currently happening.

As I understand it, the land is currently 'owned by a private trust whose chair is the Archbishop of Dublin.' - so religiously owned, even if maybe the ownership isn't very clear.

I'm posting it because I noticed Irish feminists have been marching on the subject - if anyone knows more and can explain, that would be great!

Surely this is the government proposing to build the hospital on land owned by the church(nuns). The gov would be leasing the land but there’s concerns over any conditions the church might impose on the gov wrt services provided by the hospital so the gov are saying the nuns should give them the land
