Wales going LGB+ woke

Shedbuilder · 29/07/2021 10:23

I love Wales. I lived there for too few years. Now I see the BBC is reporting that Mark Drakeford wants Wales to be the best place in the UK for LGB+ people:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-57986732

It's not entirely clear whether they're implementing their plan or consulting on it. It looks disastrous: they're planning to ban anything that could be described as conversion therapy. Just when Scandinavia, England and other progressive European countries start to open their eyes to the abuse of young people inherent in affirmation-only guidance, Wales intends to go full-tilt for affirmation-only. Anything to be more progressive than England. Like New Zealand and Canada: so in love with the idea of looking progressive that they're prepared to sacrifice women's rights on the altar of woke.

Just been looking at this (posted by the LGBA):

littlbrowndog · 29/07/2021 11:01

Like Scotland as well 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Helleofabore · 29/07/2021 11:02

That is rather concerning shedbuilder. This reminds me very much of the situation in Australia at the moment with devolved legislation around this issue.

On one hand you have some states such as Queensland, Victoria and the ACT (Canberra) who have brought in similar conversion therapy bans into their State legislation. On the other New South Wales gender clinicians have released a paper reporting that affirming only treatment is harmful to some patients.

Confusion reigns as there is no central government position and it seems some of the very hard questions go unasked in the name of kindness.

DoormatBob · 29/07/2021 11:08

Never have grasped how this is linked to LGB/sexuality.

InspiralCoalescenceRingdown · 29/07/2021 11:19

This is classic Denton's playbook, isn't it?

A bunch of commendable policies, with gender identity sneaking in via the small print.

Shedbuilder · 29/07/2021 11:35

Yes, and suddenly they've rolled out a gay man to front things and conceal the fact that this is all about the TQ+.

Does it never occur to those in power that a rise in attacks on LGB individuals may be because people are so generally pissed off with trans and gender ideology nonsense?

I think the new Welsh curriculum is set up to go full woke, and I will be watching it with careful interest.

However, I think the general population in outlying areas of Wales always seems to be several decades behind on these sorts of things. Which can only be a positive with regards to drakeford wokeness.

MoonlightApple · 29/07/2021 11:44

I have written to Drakeford many times on this type of issue and he never replies. I’m not really sure what else to do.

DdraigGoch · 29/07/2021 11:50

I might start a campaign for independence for North Wales. We can have a capital in Caernarfon or Machynlleth, well away from the lunatics down south.

FlyPassed · 29/07/2021 11:55

@MoonlightApple the baroness advises to write "i have written to [important person] to inform them that i have contacted you about my concerns". So, if you're writing to your police and crime commissioner write to your mp and tell them both you've written to the other. It seems to carry more weight but i haven't tried it

Consultation process:

peardropscent · 29/07/2021 12:21

That's exactly what I thought. The abuse this young man experienced is vile, but it's not state-sanctioned discrimination like Section 28 or preventing gay marriage. What can a Government plan do about that? If anything, this continuous atomisation of identities just 'others' groups even more.

peardropscent · 29/07/2021 12:24

That's quite common and it seems likely from various things I've heard that correspondence on this issue to MSs and MPs is very often filtered out by woke brigade staff.

Olderbadger1 · 29/07/2021 15:29

Statement from Merched Cymru. Sounds about as dire as I thought it might be.

Olderbadger1 · 29/07/2021 15:33

Merched Cymru have said they'll publish guidance re the consultation in September - maybe if lots of us respond it might make a small dent.

Sadly I don't think that would make much difference, Plaid Cymru is mainly full on woke, of the Labour MSs at least Hannah Blythyn and Lesley Griffiths are too, the councillors on Bangor town council elected the non-binary Owen Hurcum mayor.

And that's just the stuff I know about (I live down South).

Response from LGB Alliance to the Welsh Government's LGBTQ Action Plan: twitter.com/ALLIANCELGB/status/1420679700687605762

They point out that lesbians appear to have gone AWOL, that LGB Alliance Cymru were not consulted, and that the list of protected characteristics omit sex.

Seems that Welsh Government have unilaterally decided that women don't need the protections of the Equality Act. Well we've had them for over a decade wimbots, that's clearly enough pandering.

Rhannion · 29/07/2021 22:51

ni fydd menywod yn dawel is WomenWontWheest in welsh ( I hope that’s ok)

Nefelibata33 · 30/07/2021 04:31

Have I misunderstood something? Are you saying that you are in favour of conversion therapy? Which, in some cases, involves lesbian women being raped by men in the church? Just wondered. And what's the obsession with the T and the Q and the +? If you want to be accepted, why don't you try accepting others?

OldCrone · 30/07/2021 05:56

Have I misunderstood something?
Yes.

Are you saying that you are in favour of conversion therapy?
No. Persuading lesbian and gay children that they were 'born in the wrong body' is a form of conversion therapy.

And what's the obsession with the T and the Q and the +?
Are you asking us or the Welsh Government? They seem to be obsessed with T, often at the expense of LGB. What do T and Q and + have to do with LGB?

GreatAuntEmily · 30/07/2021 06:51

It seems to be small countries with, possibly a limited number of intelligent MPs and limited power/ money trying to be woke and win admiration on the world stage. ( I'm in Scotland)

IamNotDarling · 30/07/2021 07:17

From the consultation document - “We will not tolerate hateful comments about a person’s sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion or disability and any responses that contain hate speech will be passed to the authorities.”

I wonder how they’ll determine what is hate speech. Anyone living in Wales minded to do a request to see their policy on how they will determine what amounts to hateful speech?

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 30/07/2021 10:54

I wonder how they’ll determine what is hate speech.

It really isn't a consultation is it, if it's constrained by a definition that isn't transparent and the penalty for violating this unknown definition is to be reported to "the authorities" with grief knows what outcome judging by several cases that are already well known to FWR.

Orf1abc · 30/07/2021 10:57

Imagine how bigoted you must be, to blame a minority group for the actions of ignorant thugs. That's a new low, even for this board.

Rhannion · 30/07/2021 11:02

Well said , and some of them have more skin than others in this. When it comes to Scotland Cherchez La Femme and the “auld“ alliance is appropriate. 🇫🇷 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
