"As a gay man, a conservative, and someone who has campaigned over four decades for fairer treatment and greater acceptance of lesbian and gay people, it is with considerable dismay and horrified incredulity that I have observed the emergence of a new extremist LGBTQ+ movement over the past ten years: one now in full colonisation and cancel-culture mode. This new movement insists aggressively that there is an untestable but objectively real entity called “gender” that is more important than biological sex, and that anyone should be allowed to declare his or her “gender” on the basis of self-identification alone, conferring all the legal and social rights and protections of the biological sex with which that “gender” is deemed to correspond. Where this unscientific insanity is allowed to prevail, it puts men and boys in women’s and girls’ protected environments and categories, and it gives any predatory non-trans-identified man the legally-protected opportunity to pretend he identifies as transgender so he can freely access those spaces with ulterior motives."

No gay rights activist should ever campaign for measures that are misogynistic, homophobic, and contemptuous of basic child safeguarding. Yet across the West, a sea of LGBTQ+ activists refuse to recognise the serious harm they are causing, and to desist from it.

No one should be campaigning for these measures. And isn't it fascinating to see people attempt to slur women (TERFs, Tories) who recognise these harms and speak out about it.

I still struggle to understand the motivation of those who are for the removal of women's protections, for the removal of basic safeguarding measures, for permanently changing the bodies of gender non-conforming children.

That really is some article. Well done Gary Powell

FlyPassed · 25/07/2021 12:23

Gary is great. I first heard of him on the Venus Rising podcast. He opposes surrogacy too

Or rather, a lot of people are concerned about:

  • the conflict of rights of protected categories under the 2010 Equalities Act;
  • the assumption (which is not lawful) that self-identification is legal;
  • that gender extremist ideology is homo- and lesbophobic as it replaces same-sex attraction with same-gender attraction
  • people are losing jobs & livelihoods because of aggressive doxxing and name calling.

Oh, and how you can defend a movement which thinks it's OK to send death threats to women, and post pornography on a Twitter timeline which features work by children, is beyond me.

But hey, you can be proud you just call anyone with whom you disagree a transphobe to show you're on the "right" side of history.

Sorry, my post was in response to a post now deleted which basically just made accusations of transphobia ... Thanks to the lovely vipers who reported it!

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 25/07/2021 12:49

It's a great article, and so god to see more gay men speak out about this.

herewegogc · 25/07/2021 13:01

Great article

Actually, please, please don't report stuff TRAs say. It's much more useful to let it stand (unless of course it is a really horrific personal attack)
ShortBacknSides · 25/07/2021 13:52

Yes, @ ItsAllGoingToBeFine - I tend to let TRA stuff stand, as I can't complain about silencing & cancel culture and #NoDebate if I try to stop people posting views with which I disagree.

But I can see why other people do report. The slur of "transphobia" is now being used in a very harmful way. Although as people are now realising, it's used in a way that is starting to make it meaningless.

So each to her own.
