Apologies if this has been posted before, but I found this Glinner video particularly good. It’s very focused and the interviewee (not sure of his real name) was very focused and indignant and sensible. m.youtube.com/watch?v=JwKHeEmgo7g

Mr. Menno is awesome!

He was new to me :) I watched some of his videos on his own YouTube channel and he’s very good. The more voices, the better the chances of people waking up.

I was talking to a friend of mine about TWAW and (we’re both mid-50’s), she said “well, it’s not our battle, it’s for our kids” young adults “to work through”. Hmm. I refuted this and told her that I believe it affects all women and girls in terms of safeguarding, and also affects kids who are, in essence, having the gay transed away. She didn’t say much, but I’m hoping it’s given her food for thought. She’s sensible, but also wants to “be kind”. I pointed out that we are socialised to put other’s feelings ahead of our own, and that it also is not always (or even often) “being nice” to teens to affirm them in their dysphoria.

These conversations can be quite tiring, but I hope I’m getting other women thinking in my small way, as people like Menno are on a wider scale.

I'm 50s and it will definitely be our thing when we start to need more healthcare and end up with male nurses and carers who insist they're women.

JustcameoutGC · 23/07/2021 07:30

I am fighting so my kids hopefully won't have to wade through this shit. I have a pretty gender non conforming 6 y.o., who we are on a diagnostic pathway for (I would say she is an everything non conforming 6 y.o.)

I have fought so hard to keep the princesses out, for her to play with what she wants and who she wants.

I will not have anyone convincing her she is a boy because of that. She is just a very singular girl.

See, I don't think men will be queueing up to wipe bottoms and provide other intimate care in care homes, not matter how they identify. They don't now, really. But it should never happen, I agree. My mum got housed in a mainly-men unit with mostly male carers and it caused her massive distress (dementia) and nobody was trying to tell her they were anything other than men. They were lovely and gentle with her, but she hated being touched by men

TabbyStar · 23/07/2021 09:33

Yeah I thought that as I wrote it Masdintle, it would be great to have the data to know whether transwomen's job choices followed women's, I bet they don't. More likely there would be medical professionals though I would have thought.

Mr Menno's closing words reminded me of this essay that another poster linked: Live not by lies

A universal spiritual death has already touched us all, and physical death will soon flare up and consume both us and our children—but as before we still smile in a cowardly way and mumble without tongues tied.…

When violence intrudes into peaceful life, its face glows with self-confidence, as if it were carrying a banner and shouting: “I am violence. Run away, make way for me—I will crush you.” But violence quickly grows old. And it has lost confidence in itself, and in order to maintain a respectable face it summons falsehood as its ally—since violence can conceal itself with nothing except lies, and the lies can be maintained only by violence.…It demands from us only obedience to lies and daily participation in lies—all loyalty lies in that.

And the simplest and most accessible key to our self-neglected liberation lies right here: Personal non-participation in lies. Though lies conceal everything, though lies embrace everything, we will be obstinate in this smallest of matters: Let them embrace everything, but not with any help from me.

Thanks for this OP, such a refreshing and articulate voice in this issue.

Ritascornershop · 23/07/2021 17:22

He is really articulate! And funny. Sometimes I find Graham’s videos meander a wee bit, but Mr Menno was very focused and entertaining, while also getting the points across well. It’s good to see another gay man (in addition to Arty Morty and James Dreyfus) being indignant and supportive of women.

I loved watching this video when I found it a little while ago (have been working my way through Glinner's videos) and it was really enlightening for me. His own channel and other contribution to The Mess We're In are great, too. I had been so focussed on the issues as they affect women and children but Menno's insights into females trying to enter into gay men's spaces have particularly stuck with me. Like OP says, he's really articulate and entertaining.
