Will of course not effect the iconic HG competitions, like caber tossing but the athletic categories:

I think this is really smart, loudly proclaim you're being inclusive to stop a pile on. Use a handicap system to prevent men walking in and taking all the women's titles.

Igneococcus · 18/07/2021 08:49

It will really depend on what kind of handicap system they introduce, and will it apply uniformly to all games. I would really pity the officials at the small games round here who would have to make decisions on handicaps.

The handicapping at Highland games is quite entertaining, you get 70 year old sprinters starting halfway up the track while the youngsters do the whole thing, creates a bit of drama watching to see them catch up!

There's a Highland Games local to my parents I've been to quite a few times and I absolutely love it. The heavy events are great fun to watch. Good mix of locals who give it a go every year and people who travel around to compete all over the place, including one or two women.

They are usually very tanned and wrinkly and I remember one with a wig once. Elderly cyclists take part in the grass circuit races too. I rather admire their spirit!
I like a good Highland Games, excellent people watching.

I’ve never actually seen women take part in tossing the caber or hammer throws.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/07/2021 20:00

I have. If memory serves, the hammer and possibly also the caber were smaller/lighter than the ones the men toss/throw.

I prefer the dancing myself! The wee kids are so cute!
