What a surprise! Turns out Ireland is not as convinced about self-iD as TRAs would have us believe.

We started threads about this at the same time - great minds think alike Smile

The survey results made for interesting reading.

334bu · 14/07/2021 14:00

Very interesting thank you

PurpleHoodie · 14/07/2021 18:14

Thanks.

RickiTarr · 14/07/2021 18:15

Nothing on the link. Deleted?

PurpleHoodie · 14/07/2021 18:17

The link works, and the results are on show.

Try this.

RickiTarr · 14/07/2021 18:19

Thanks the second one works.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 14/07/2021 18:21

What a shock! Has anyone EVER done a poll about this stuff using clear terms & found in favour of full access self ID?

RickiTarr · 14/07/2021 18:23

Good to have an actual poll to point to, though.

Abhannmor · 14/07/2021 19:04

Well done the Countess! Only 17% support Self ID. We sleep 💤 walked into it in 2015. Only now the wheels are falling off. Roll on the Olympics...

I would argue that we didn't really sleep walk into it, given that what was mooted originally was the medical model, which was then switched at the last minute to Self ID. We were hoodwinked.

I agree it really needs to be repealed, but unfortunately the government are gung-ho to reduce the age to 16 now Shock.

The Countess has said that she has sent the results of the survey to media outlets and TDs, so it remains to be seen whether it will be addressed or reported on. I won't hold my breath Angry.

It is quite shocking to have the government (here and elsewhere) blatantly pushing legislation that holds very little support from the electorate.

My spidey senses tell me someone somewhere got a brown envelope to push this through.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 14/07/2021 19:14

"My spidey senses tell me someone somewhere got a brown envelope to push this through." that's an interesting point, Mullet

A lot of the TRA organisations have large incomes - despite which they have not built a network of shelters or services for transpeople, trained HCPs to address the workforce issue at GICs, funded research into trans and NB physical or mental health issues, or, it seems to me, provided much value for the rainbow money. Which I suppose would leave a fair bit of cash for a brown envelope slush fund.

saltedcaramelchocolate · 14/07/2021 19:25

I doubt that this is supported by the majority of people in any country.

bellinisurge · 14/07/2021 19:33

Thanks PurpleHoodie

As I recall, Stonewall got a large grant from the Arcus Foundation the year they added the T to the LGB, coincidence? I think not.

Good point about the TRA's not spending money on services that would actually benefit trans people, or indeed campaigning for a third space.

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 14/07/2021 22:34

I just had a look at the Lobbying register and it seems the BeLonGto Youth Services and TENI have been very active in lobbying various politicians for last few years regarding the Gender Recognition Act.

They've also been trying for a few years to get the age lowered to 16, as the current amendments to the act have been mooted since 2017, and I can see lobbying records going back as far as 2016 stating review/amendment to GRA or similar.

It has occurred to me, Mullet that Stonewall do a lot of complaining but not much, you know, advocating or action.
