"Westminster used to agree on LGBT+ rights. What happened?" he asks. I'm sure the comments will tell him and he won't listen:

My own comment quoting Ben's tweet was rejected. Hmm

This from one of the comments is so well put:
"We see decades of hard work to establish gay people as valued and respected members of society being undermined by the activities of Pink News, Stonewall and others .
If your trans activism does not respect women’s boundaries, fails to understand child safeguarding, belittles homosexuality and regards differences of opinion as bigotry, then you are harming, not helping the daily lives of trans people.
That’s what happened Mr Cohen."

Something for Ben

@highame

The good thing about the Times is that it gives space to both sides. On the GC side you get very intelligent arguments and then there's Benjamin Cohen. The Times readership appears to be very GC judging by the comments.
I only looked at the comments as I (rightly) thought they'd be a much better read than the usual drivel that Cohen spouts.

Several people complaining about their comments either being removed or not allowed.

I wrote the word Hell, and a warning appeared about my language Hmm

Not a good look.

Furries · 12/07/2021 22:07

Not in relation to this article, but I’ve noticed he does this a few times on Twitter. Posts something and then follows it up with “before anyone gets offended, it’s a joke!” Funny how it’s ok for him to poke fun online at certain groups of people.

Though this follow-up comment did make me laugh - no response from him on that though.

Thanks Furries - that comment is one to treasure.

StrangeLookingParasite · 12/07/2021 22:45

I'm not sure BC would know a joke if it bounced off his head (like a nerf ball, in case I am thought to be inciting violence, which I am not).

Furries · 12/07/2021 22:52

@StrangeLookingParasite - I misread that at first and read it with a “t” instead of and “n” for the ball descroption 😂

DisgustedofManchester · 13/07/2021 12:29

Many of the comments come from the same people who write pretty terrible things about article on women's rights and anything to do with racism. There's usually the same 3 or 4 mumsnetters who write a comment when anyone writes an article about say, women being murdered, but use the word gender instead of sex. Sort of completely dilutes the impact of the article after missing its point by a country mile.

The issue with the Times is that they censor out pro trans comments much more vigorously so it becomes an echo chamber for transphobia and gets reported as being a 'win' on pages like this. Meanwhile in the real world....

The real world where everyone knows humans can change sex if they want to and no-one minds about women's rights?

What colour is the sky there?

NotBadConsidering · 13/07/2021 12:37

🤣🤣🤣 your post is still there. It got 5 recommends. FIVE! 😆😆. The most recommended for 755. That must sting. Where are all the people who support your view? Out of 678 comments, “pro-trans” comments were censored were they? But only 5 people - probably you included, I imagine you’re the sort to recommend your own comment - could be bothered to show support for your view. Where are the rest?

This is the real world, get used to it. Bitter much? 😆😆

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/07/2021 12:40

Five? Oh mate.

Datun · 13/07/2021 12:47

Oh dear. It doesn't matter what platform you're on, or how you cut the ratio, it's never on the side of reality denial.

Proof?

It's not us in the echo chamber. Welcome to reality.

Keepemguessing · 13/07/2021 13:10

The real world, huh? Grin

In some cases this may indicate a pattern of abusive/controlling behaviour.

Healthy Place
'When Verbal Abuse Is Disguised as a Joke'
JULY 18, 2017 EMMA-MARIE SMITH
(extract)
"Disguising a hurtful comment as a joke is one of the many signs of verbal abuse, but I didn't know this at the time. Like many others, I believed I was just too sensitive; that if I wasn't so insecure I could handle his "banter" and we would get along just fine.

It's important to remember that a verbally abusive partner behaves this way so he can assert his control and influence over you. If you realized how great you were and how much better you deserved, you might not be willing to put up with his "jokes."

Identifying a pattern of abuse is half the battle, but it's up to you to break the cycle." (continues)

It's very odd, you know. The proportion of deleted comments often increase on threads you're on over at the Times, Disgusted. Yet yours usually remain. Congratulations on this achievement!

(The Times is mostly reaction-modded, as we are here at MN.)

Igneococcus · 13/07/2021 13:51

I think there are more than 3-4 Mumsnetters in the Times comment sectio and I have never seen any of them mix up gender and sex.

Women concerned about the accurate reporting of femicide? I don't think they are the person/s missing the point by a country mile.

Wiki
(extract)
"Femicide or feminicide is a sex-based hate crime term, broadly defined as "the intentional killing of women or girls because they are female", though definitions vary depending on its cultural context. Feminist author Diana E. H. Russell was the first person to define and disseminate this term in modern times, in 1976. She defines the word as "the killing of females by males because they are female." Other feminists place emphasis on the intention or purpose of the act being directed at females specifically because they are female." (continues)

"Real world views"

Maaaaaaaate.

Helleofabore · 13/07/2021 17:07

Meanwhile in the real world....

You must get very infuriated when you realize that the real world is very different from how you wish it to be. How shocking to keep realizing that women say no to you in real life too!!!!
